I’ve seen speculation that the Angels aren’t IL’ing him because they are so marginally below the luxury tax line they sending him to the IL and calling up someone to replace him could push them over the luxury tax line. If that’s true it’s an embarrassment for the franchise and league.

People kept clamoring for a salary cap and well MLB got one.  Amazing how it didn't solve anything but keeping salaries down but has lead to NFL/NBA style activities to avoid penalties.

The Brewers are lucky to have Matt Arnold and this is the Angels GM mastermind putting there team together. No clue at all.

He’s injured, hasn’t played for two weeks and is headed for surgery then free agency.

Clearing out his locker now instead of at the end of the season seems like a sensible decision to me.

Clearly there is something to it. If they were just graciously letting him clean out his locker and go home due to injury they would have said/done something.

I think it also goes to show why there will never be a salary cap. The players don't like this and most of the owners are fine with it as is.

That is in fact what happened today. He's on the IL and done for the year.

Hunter continues his journey to eventually play for every major league team

I remember when the trade was lambasted by many people on this board. It turns out Renfroe is the definition of replaceable and we were able to get Peguero in return, who has been huge in solidifying the bullpen.

Looks like the Rays have figured out their stadium situation

Wait, so they're building it i the same location that everyone says is the main issue with attendance at the current one?   They're not correcting the obvious problem?    I'm not familiar with all the Tampa area geography so please correct if I'm misreading this.

On the one hand it’s tough luck getting DFA’d from a team in the chase as you head into free agency.

Then on the hand he gets to start his winter break early and still will get a million bucks from the Reds to do so.

Apparently they couldn’t secure any funding from Tampa after many, many years of trying so had to go this route.

The As continue their drive to history.

It looks like it will come down to the last game in the quest to become the worst team ever in terms of run differential.

They'll need to lose their last 9 games by 17 runs or more (net) to carve out their spot in baseball lore.

I know you can do it guys!

Acuna just hit his 40th HR that gives him a 40/40 season only 4 other players have done this.  I think Acuna has the NL MVP locked up.  He is the first player to have 40 home runs and 60 stolen bases.  If he steals two more bases he will be the only player to hit 40 HR's and 70 SB's.

I understand the game changes and evolves over time but are we considering some of the stolen base totals this season as "legitmate"? Acuna's previous high was 37 and he's going to almost double that. No way he steals 60 or even 50 under the old rules.

Stolen bases counts are similar to the '70s and '80s but obviously home runs were lower back then. It's the first time we've had high levels of both power+speed in the game at the same time and it's awesome.

Also he's been caught 13 times, and statcast has him with a baserunning value of 0 due to some of the more idiotic steal attempts. That doesn't account for all the induced errors from the fielding side though, but yeah he's been chancing his arm a lot and it's paid off

I'm impressed at the balance they were able to get with the new rules. I was watching the A's/Mariners game last week and the A's seem to run recklessly -- they had two runners thrown out at 2nd in the same inning, Only a handful of really fast guys are racking up the big stolen base counts and it remains difficult to steal 3rd base.

I don't believe baseball savant's baserunning number has anything to do with steals. I think it's just down to taking extra bases on balls in play.

Fangraphs BsR takes into consideration both SB success and taking extra base success and Acuna's BsR is 6.3 which is 14th in the MLB. That seems to back up Savant viewing his as an average baserunner because Acuna leads the MLB in SB yet is 14th in BsR.

BRef has Acuna +6 on base running, then -1 for double plays, which seems to line up with the FanGraphs number. Believe FG accounts for double plays under batting runs.
