The type of cancer he had is brutal and quick.

My Dad passed this summer, 2 months after being diagnosed. They very well could have known (and caught it early) but with that type of hyper aggressive stuff you never know how long they have.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I completely understand what you went through. My mom was given a month to live, the day she was told she had stomach cancer. 28 days later, she was gone. RIP Mom 😪.

Again....F*** CANCER!!

I'll never forget Uek. I was an usher at county stadium back in the 80s.  Bob Uecker was so down to earth.  He would always stop to chat with us, even though his popularity was so huge back then with TV and movies.  Never will forget that he'd come to work on his Harley and we let him in by the bleachers and he'd park in the tunnel under the stands.  Always thought it was funny a big star like that would ride a Harley. He was the epitome of Milwaukee.

Like many have stated I suspected this day would come soon but I somehow was still completely unprepared.  There was just something magical about being able to count on listening to Uecker on the radio that was such a part of what made summer in Wisconsin special. It is so rare to find such  a mix of greatness and humility.

I miss him already and I know it will hit hard this season to not have his voice around. It just isn't going to be the same.

One of my favorite things on the internet. (Note, very NSFW, so don't watch if you want to remember Uke as the family man and NBC announcer).

Celebrity deaths rarely move the needle for me but this one hurts.  Hurts bad.  Yelich knew and I think deep down we all did too after seeing how emotional he got.  Damn.  Damn. Damn.

One under-reported aspect of Uecker's legacy is his charity.

Despite retiring with a .200 career batting average he never once campaigned to have it renamed The Uecker Line.

On a lighter, happier note, do you have a favorite Bob Uecker commercial ad read?

“You’ve got a lot more going for you with Hank… Hardware hank”“

If someone in Milwaukee doesn't have some Usinger's sausage outside of his statue in the next 60 minutes we will have failed as a fan base.

My wife texted me after hearing the news and asked if I wanted some Usingers tonight in honor of Uke.

I quickly threw together a playlist of clips I'd saved over the years (2008, 2011 mostly) of some Ueck calls and figured this group may want to take a listen.

Here's the relatively short playlist:

His call of Braun's HR in that 2008 Cubs game is far and away my favorite call of his.

I’m not one to get star struck easily. There’s only been two times I’ve ever cried over a celebrity.Norm. McDonald and Eddie Van Halen. Today is the third.

Norm and Ueck were friends.

And this story from Norm is insanely funny. Not sure I've ever seen Letterman laugh that hard.

I'm pretty sure the off-color stuff was just to get a rise out of Norm and Artie since they were his buddies. It's not like he normally did that. He said in an interview with Bob Costas that sometimes if a guest was in the booth, he'd say weird things while using the cough button (not necessarily R-rated, just inappropriate for air) just to make them think he was actually saying them on air.

I wonder what kind of season long tributes we'll get this season, but nobody should ever sit in his seat in media row ever again. Just an empty chair from now on.

We have been calling it the Uecker Line in the hawing household for decades.

It's been a tough day to be in a public facing job when I'd rather be Ueck-grieving with the rest of you.

In 2012, then-MLB intern Ryan Kartje wrote a longform story on Bob and was looking for fans to talk about him.  I offered and then turned out to be the only fan mentioned in the piece.  It disappeared from search engines in the last few years, but Ryan found it for me today.

"He knows everything I know." (about the Brewers)  It's mind-boggling to realize that there will now be things about the Brewers that I'll know but he will not.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

First of all, the obvious comment is that there will never be another Bob Uecker in Milwaukee. Franchises like the Dodgers, Tigers, Cubs, Cardinals that have there one legendary broadcaster are lucky, because its a rarity these days. Since I didn't have cable until I was in college and TV games on Ch 18 were far and few between, Bob Uecker was how I consumed baseball as a kid and learned to love this team and game.  Obviously summers will never be the same and really the last part of my childhood is gone today.

Uecker cutting down his schedule significantly, lessens the blow from a gameday standpoint as we have been accolated with Levering and Grindle and to a lesser extent Mauer. It would be very hard to have a fresh play by play guy to come in and work a full 162 games.

Its just a sad day, that we all knew was coming, but that doesn't make it any easier.

The statue of Uecker outside the stadium is awesome.

But the statue of him in the Uecker seats inside the stadium is now my favorite statue of all time and truly I could see myself getting emotional when I see it next and take it in. It used to be just a funny tip of the cap to our beloved announcer.

Now it is just the greatest Brewer of all time watching his favorite team from his favorite spot, forever.

Easter Sunday 1987.  I was glued to the radio as a 13 year old. That season and that day in specific solidified me as a life-long Brewer fan.

Uecker's calls was a big part of that.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

2025 needs to be for Uecker.

I'll just pretend that Bob spoke to Bill Schroeder recently:

Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker."

"I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
