I think Mitchell being done for the year, is a DFA when needed. Reassign him to AAA. I assume he's a 60day IL and not affecting the 40man.  I don't know how the 40man spot is affected come offseason? But if needed on Rule 5 protection or drafting, Brewers should remove him off it.

They won’t DFA Mitchell this offseason. Too much upside for what it costs to keep him financially and there are always some AAAA players that are easier to cut from the 40 man

Because that's his legal first name?

ok.

Joseph is Joey Ortiz' legal first name,

Jakob is Jake Bauers' legal first name.

I'm surprised Frelick (aka Salvatore as he's weirdly called by some on here) wasn't put on the IL.

I really hope they don't rush him back and he re-aggravates the injury.

To be fair, the people making these decisions have much more information and medical knowledge than we do.

Absolutely, I agree.

More than anything i'm just surprised by him not being placed on the IL, that's all.

Murphy had a pretty ominous tone about it when he talked about it post game that day it happened.

Who gets put on the bench when Frelick comes back?  I'm thinking it is going to be Perkins.  It is great to see Perkins playing well in his first couple of games back.

My guess... Chourio and Frelick will play just about every day, and they'll juggle Collins and Perk primarily. Maybe give Yelli or Black/Bauers an odd day in LF to give Chourio a spell.

Ideally they decide the Collins can handle second, move Turang to shortstop and option Ortiz. What will actually happen is Perkins goes to being a 4th OFer.

It is a good dilemma to have, but not too hard to deal with. They'll option Black or Siegler (probably Siegler until Hoskins is back),

If you take a 7-game stretch, you have 21 spots to fill in the OF (7x3). The distribution of those slots could be Chourio 6, Frelick 6, Collins 5, Perkins 4. I like giving Chourio and Frelick each a staggered game off so that you have one of them in every game, and both in 5/7, and give them a little bit of rest. The odd man out can be a good PH option.

They could always use some kind of rotation for the 2 of them unless one or the other becomes really hot at the plate.

Having 4 OFs is fine, its really ideal. I don't see the issue or concern on PT. With two being switch hitters its easy to play matchups and rest days moved around. Plus, now that we're like 2-3 years into the "we have too many OF discussions" I'd hope folks realize that people will continue to get hurt.  It happens over and over. Even got to the point we've had to play Bauers and Mike Cameron's kid out there this year.

A roster crunch issue that could come up down the line if Vaughn keeps doing what he's doing is what to do with Hoskins.  Bauers struggling after the good start obviously frees a spot. But, he at least had the OF sub flexibility that Vaughn doesn't have and he's not LH like Bauers.   Brewers typically don't like having one position types and to have two of them who can't play anywhere other than 1B doesn't seem like their thing. Especially with DH heavily covered with Yeli/Contreras. But to my first point, other injuries will happen and it'll likely take care of itself or Vaughn will snap back to reality.

why are you so adamant that moving turang  to ss  and Collins to 2nd is better for this team

Looks like a reason for his poor performance.  Maybe a reason to outright him in the offseason if they need the roster spot as with the surgery it's unlikely that anyone will pick him in the Rule 5.

But yeah, those conspiracy theories...

Because Scott (edit: Thomas) wasn't on the active roster long enough, his Rule 5 status carries over to next year. Needs to stay on the 40-man and cannot be optioned. I think he's getting returned to St. Louis in the offseason.

I hid a bunch of garbage posts. If you're coming to call someone out and not actually continue discussion, pause for a moment and think if it's really going to be productive.

If you're coming to just respond to someone who called you out, same thing.

The point isn't to score points or win the internet.

Yep. With the current pitching glut, I would say there is a very high change they DFA/Offer him back to St. Louis in the offseason. I cannot see them trying to rehab him and get him a roster spot next year.

Mitchell is arbitration eligible this offseason. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/06/brewers-garrett-mitchell-shoulder-surgery.html

I personally think he is a prime non-tender candidate either this offseason, or if not, next offseason.  Not sure the Brewers want to pay him $3-$4 million with all of the injuries when they have Chourio, Yelich, Frelick, Perkins, Collins. Just kind of goes against the way they have done business recently.  Woodruff being the one exception.

I'd say unlikely this offseason as his Arb 1 number should be very small like $1.5M tops because he's barely played. At that price it's worth giving it another shot to see if he can stay healthy. I'd say next year is his do or die year in Milwaukee. If he spends 75% of the year on the IL again then he's surely getting non-tendered and not getting Arb 2 salary.

You are very likely correct if the Arb 1 number is really $1.5 million or so.
