Remind me...

Am I correct that Rhys can stay on the rehab assignment for 30 days?

What are the options after the 30 days...He comes up (with the added +1 roster spot in September)?  or They DFA him at that time?

The one other option is have another injury and go back on the IL.

With 12 days till rosters expand I know the Brewers would prefer he stays on rehab.  If he "has" to come up, I'm guessing mono goes down due to more flexibility from siegler.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

Rhys would at least be a good bench bat when rosters expand and he has playoff experience so it would be nice to get his leadership up. I get that with Vaughn playing so well he really isn't needed.

Joey Ortiz singled in that at-bat, but was hobbled when he reached first base and drew a visit from an athletic trainer and Murphy. He remained in the game, but was replaced at shortstop by Andruw Monasterio in the bottom of the seventh. “It’s pretty painful,” Murphy said.

Ortiz exits early (knee), unlikely to start Wednesday

This was the big concern when not adding anyone at the deadline. What if an IF gets hurt and you all of a sudden have to rely on Mono to start for a long time or playoffs.  Didn't help to have Castro hit a ding dong and gun a guy at the plate in the same game that this happened.

But hopefully its just a couple days off and he'll be fine.

I will say this: I believe Mona can hit a little better than Ortiz but Ortiz's consistent D will be missed.

Just seen your post, WOW I'm surprised Joey is in there.

Yeah, Hoskins might not 'like' a rehab until 9/1. But short of an injury to someone else that looks to be in the cards. And he'll be looking for a deal come off-season so there should be no lack of intensity/keeping himself ready. Certainly him & Vaughn in the lineup together at 1B/DH makes sense vs some LHPs.

Any PH opportunities that come up in September will have more fleshed-out options with Hoskins (or maybe every once in awhile Vaughn) available on the bench, as well as whoever might be sitting that day after Chourio returns.

Also pleasantly surprised to hear Ortiz is right back in the harness.

It didn't look good at the time. But it seems like it was just a little "dead leg" after fouling a ball off his knee.

We are lucky if that is all it is.  Just a temporary nerve thing then for Joey.

Had no idea hall was injured 🤣 all week I was thinking "man they're really saving hall for a win, huh?"

Love seeing Jackson going out for rehab!  Hope he's back as quick as possible!!!

Despite Vaughn's error the other game, he is better than Hoskins on defense, right?  Or have I just randomly missed the plays he isn't making?

Edit:  I really laid in the jinx on this one.

After posting -13 DRS and -16 FRV over 2,833 innings with the White Sox from 2021-25, Vaughn has apparently flipped the script on his defense with the Brewers too at +1 DRS | +2 FRV in in tiny sample of 294 innings.

For reference Hoskins was -7 DRS | -8 FRV over 4,195 innings with the Phillies, but has also been a little better with the Brewers at -1 DRS | -2 FRV over 1,445 innings.

Probably give the edge to Vaughn at this point for having better recent results and being five years younger, but he was worse than Hoskins by the metrics before getting here so its probably not a very big difference either way.

This is great.

And I like when the computers align with the eye test. Sometimes, I look over there, and my mind thinks its Rhys when its Vaughn. They seem like pretty similar defenders in terms of range. Basically, solid enough first basemen.

Vaughn has been crashing back down to earth over the last few weeks. I'm not ready to give up on him but I am ready for Rhys to take some at bats.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

to be fair, some of that has to do with the wind blowing in at Wrigley the last several games; I feel like he was impacted by that more than anyone with how many flyballs he hits.
