Harrison been traded twice now. Not a great sign if he was going in the right direction.

Have you not seen what the Brewers can do with pitchers?

To be honest when I saw a headline of Brewers trading Durbin to the Sox, I thought it was one of those completely made up trade headlines with no basis in reality.

Having trouble recalling our infield depth now...

1B - Vaughn/Bauers

2B - Turang

SS - Jett Williams

3B - Ortiz?

Utility - ??

Who else do we have in the infield?? Seems like a LOT of holes.

Paredes is NOT a good 3B and would not fit our mold very well.

I am in total shock at this trade.

Need to sit back and evaluate before I go one way or the other...

The way it looks at this moment, we are going to have Ortiz and his lack of offense pegged for an offensive position, on a team that already lacks offensive pop.  It was bad enough having his bat at SS, but now at 3B?

There just has to be something else on the horizon, right?

Priester was traded from the Pirates to Boston, then from Boston to us.

I mean, Durbin was traded from the Yankees to us, and now from us to Boston so he has been traded twice also.

So was Priester....

Felt like Durbin had nowhere to go but up...good hit tool, maybe could squeeze a bit more power up.

Usual caveat of trusting this front office. Don't know anything about return or plan.

Tyler Black. Brandon Lockridge has played some infield in the past. Eddys Leonard is a non-roster invite.

Black has a pretty tremendous opportunity in front of him.

Please explain.

He hasn't been an option at 3B for quite some time, or anyplace in the IF for that matter.

Where does his opportunity open up?

Lockridge?  Yes, let's make an effort to get his bat into the line-up too...

Monasterio, Seigler and Hamilton are backup infielder potpourri so the trade essentially boils down to...

exchanging Durbin's higher established floor for the potentially higher ceiling of Harrison...

and flipping the total uncertainty of the Comp B pick that will be at minimum a couple two tree years timeline to MLB even if it were a college pick for Drohan who at first glance looks like SP depth / possible long relief option for this year.

I'm just happy I don't have to pretend Seigler is any kind of answer any more.

Just did a quick glance at still available FA infielders.   Most likely name that could make sense is Ramon Urias.  Passable vet that won't cost much that I'd rather play than Hamilton

I’m of the belief that if you think you evaluate talent better than your competition then you should be making a lot of trades. We seem to have figured that out and are approaching Tampa and Seattle in trade volume lately.

Nobody else constructs a roster like we do, turning this group into a 26 man by the end of March is going to be entertaining. And we’re surely not done trading.

I like the 3b we have in our pipeline but I really don't want to have to rely on them and not have a vet on the bench in case they hit a rough spot. We need more offense at the moment.

He was the regular 3B in Nashville in 2023. Battled injury in both 2024 and 2025.

At this point, his only path to Big League time may hedge on the ability to play 3B.

I was openly asking for another starting pitcher or two and this may fill that at least.

Conventional logic would say the team would pick someone up to play 3rd base but I don't assume anything with the Brewers.

Presumably adding depth to the bullpen in a potential/probable Megill trade, too.

I'm starting to really like the trade. Jett gets a steady position at 3b instead of bouncing a rookie around and making the bet he can at least duplicate Durbin's offense. Unless Jett is supposed to be the best defensive SS prospect out of all our others, why put him at the more difficult SS position?

Seems a good gamble for a potential top-line starter.

Black has been very poor defensively at 3B, and even at 1B.
His hitting took a big step back last year, but he is probably LF/DH occasional 1B type of player.

If he could find that swing again, we can find room for him as DH/LF but that is already taken by Yelich, so I still think he only path to Big Leagues is show he can hit and he can go to another organization who needs a DH/LF.

\ sorry didn't mean to hijack this trade thread \

I am still flabbergasted. They either see something in Harrison or expect to trade some pitching for more bats.

Or maybe this is the "punt" year that most were expecting last year. Just go and do what you can and really try to get prepared for 2027-2029 when a lot of core players are under control (basically all but Contreras and Megill) to go with all the A+/AA/AAA prospects we have.

I guess Pat Murphy wanted another starting pitcher and whether he knew it would be more  a prospect than MLB talent maybe he didn't know that was coming

Does the move today make non-roster invitee Eddys Leonard (and his 20 HR power at AAA last year) a more intriguing Spring Training option?

Ortiz was a 3.2 fWAR player as a third baseman.  The Brewers must see him as a good bet to bounce back with the bat a bit if they get him away from shortstop.  What they really need now is a backup shortstop, because Hamilton's defensive metrics there are not that impressive.  They also need an insurance plan for a Vaughn regression, because I trust the results of 2248 at bats more than I would trust the results of 221 at bats.

Undoubtedly. It makes me want to follow the Big League Spring Training numbers of Brock Wilken, Cooper Pratt and Luke Adams (not to mention Jesus Made) a little closer as well.

The biggest bummer is that we'll never see Caleb Durbin and Jett Williams as teammates. That pairing sounded like it would have been a lot of fun.

Would've been fun to trot out a lineup of Durbin, Jett, Sal and Ortiz.
