But I believe those shaders are percentage-ranks based among all innings played at SS, so that whomever is the "worst" MLB SS is in the 1st percentile, which hypothetically, could still mean that he's the 30th best defensive SS in the world, rather than, "Of 100 major league shortstops, he would rank 100th"*. After all, a "bad" shortstop would never accrue enough innings there to get to -17.

Again, If I were the Nats, I would've moved him a long time ago, because I happen to think having a good defensive shortstop is really important for winning teams, but I think those shaders sometimes give us a false impression of just HOW bad/good players are. Unlike say, Misiorowski's shaders, which I am sure has a lot of 99s, because he is truly that kind of outlier.

Wow. I thought $10k was the minimum. They should have something like that.  I mean it’s up to the kids if they want to sign for that little.

Probably means the midsummer classic returns to Milwaukee some time during the 2030s, right? Unlike the NBA, where the city continues to be spurned going on a half century and despite a new arena,  MLB has no qualms about small markets playing host to the All Star Game and has something of a rotation. These are basically the only other cities that have been waiting in line longer (with the exception of San Fran due to the Olympics). MLB gets to “reward” the state and the club for the taxpayer funded renovations to Am Fam. 

Maybe Vegas and Tampa jump to the front once their new parks are done, but after that....

I don’t think Milwaukee will get another All Star game.  Tampa and Vegas will be ahead of them plus the expansion teams that are coming.  Boston hasn’t had one recently.

Why wouldn't they get another one at some point? When they tend to incentivize and reward localities who put forward taxpayer $ for stadiums/renovations (see Toronto, Baltimore)....

Like I said, MLB isn't the NBA where they go to LA every other year. They actually try rotate through all their clubs, large markets and small.

Two weeks, I lost in fantasy by one point because Yordan Alvarez struck out in the last at bat on Sunday night.

Last week, I lost by 9 despite scoring the second most amount of points in the league. Now with this Harrison scoring change, it will be a 10 point swing, so I would win by 1.

Saw that Eugenio Suarez and T J Friedl were placed on waivers by the Reds. How Suarez has fallen over the course of one year from the prized trade deadline player to struggling pretty much ever since. Brewers don't have a use for Friedl but Suarez is the type of player that could fall to the Brewers since he is paid well and under performing. However, don't know if he fits as wouldn't remove any active postion player for him other than perhaps Yelich, and we know Yelich isn't going anywhere.

In 2025 Saurez had 437 PAs with Arizona and put up .248/.320/.576.

Then he was traded to Seattle at the deadline in 2025.  Since that trade he has an OPS under .700 in 630 PAs. 
 

His time in Arizona was more of an extended hot streak by a journeyman than him upping his game; and it is why he’s on waivers, and will likely go unclaimed.

Yeah, just a guy if you ignore his 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. He got old quickly, it happens. And it wasn't like teams didn't have questions, it's why he 's on a one year $15 million deal.

I think the Mariners will claim Geno. They currently have Weston Wilson getting regular playing time and poor Brendon Donovan keeps getting injured (the latest one was getting a ball to the head in batting practice).

I mean he turned 30 then was traded 3 times between Opening Day 2022 and July 2025 and traded 4 times in his career. He’s only 14th amongst active players in terms of career games played yet 3rd in career strikeouts.

I guess it depends how you define “journeyman” and “just a guy” but fact is he’s a one dimensional slugger that’s appeared  with 6 teams in 13 years (DET, CIN, SEA, AZ, SEA, CIN).

More or less the same thing that the Giants got after we traded him to them in 2022, and the same thing the Rays got when they sold him to the White Sox for cash considerations this past December. 

The good news items relevant to Tristan Peters would be that (1) the individual who traded him away is now employed by the Mets, and (2) the Brewers have the best record in MLB this year (again) playing well above anyone's reasonable expectations entering the season (hey, kinda like Tristan Peters is) and have a future OF stocked with options like Chourio, Mitchell, Lara, Frelick, Adamczewski, Payne, Strosnider, Antunez, etc.

If the Brewers had 71 or 72 wins fighting with the Padres and Diamondbacks for the last Wild Card spot looking up at the Cubs in the Central (like the season was supposed to play out according to the experts) this would be a lot more concerning to me, but given the reality we are living in is markedly better than that (again) it's more of a Way To Go Tristan from me.

Reminds me of Michael Brantley.

Was Michael Brantley a very good to great player?  Yes!  

Was there any room on the Brewers for Brantley to play?  No, not with Braun, Cameron, and Gomez.

Could the Brewers have gotten more for Brantley than as a piece for Sabathia?  Unlikely, not without proving him at the major league level, which wasn't going to happen with Braun, Cameron, and Gomez there.

Well, en lieu of @sveumrulesdelightfully accurate morsel, I'll play Devil's Advocate here and actually answer your question 🫡

Peters was traded for the lotto ticket (failure) chance at a healthy bullpen RHP Trevor Rosenthal. It did not work out. That was four years ago now and Peters is in his 3rd org since the Brewers. He was always very solid with the T-Rats. I don't think anyone saw this type of season coming - hats off to Tristan! Can he replicate it or a season similar to it? Dunno. Good for the Sox and good for Peters - I think it's absurdly impressive what he's doing.

I know a number of White Sox fans and for about a month after the All Star Break heard a lot of complaining about how bad Peters was, had something like a 300 OPS after the break and then suddenly became Barry Bonds.
