If the last year and a half are down/awful years/the floor for Henderson (25 years old, FA in 2029) and Holliday (22 years old, FA in 2031 or 32?), then sign me up.

2025-26:

I think it'd probably cost more than it's worth for us considering all the infield talent we already have, but I would be pretty confident in them providing a boost the rest of the season and beyond if they were acquired.

And at only 25 years old, I suspect Gunnar has a good chance of finding his 2023-24 success again:

I could care less what his stats are including half of last year lmao his stats this year is 95 wrc + below league average hitter with 1.2 war ortiz has same war u gonna trade made for a guy that broke arbitration 1 salary record and gonna shoot for the same thing his next arb years all the while he isn't even a league average hitter this year I 100% guarantee milwaukee wouldnt even consider this trade

Miller might cost even MORE than Skubal.

For sure. He's under team control for a bit and is making like $4 million this year. Would be a great addition.

Made, Pena, Fischer, etc., aren't going to help this year.  Or likely next year either.

I can literally guarantee you made will help next year theres literally probably a 100% chance made gets called up in 27 rather than playing another full year in the minors just no shot that happens unless he completey falls of a cliff infact I wouldnt be surprised at all to see made extended and on opening day roster I bet you thought chourio wasnt ready either

Man, it would be nice to have a board rule where text speak was not allowed.

The trade packages being speculated on for Skubal all seem significantly better than what the Brewers got back for Corbin Burnes. Skubal is better than Burnes, but they are pretty good comps. Surprising to see the perceived gulf in value.

I'm wondering if the Brewers can get creative with a trade package for Skubal, where Skubal isn't the only player coming to MKE.

If the Tigers want one of the Brewers young major league starters or a bigger prospect package, maybe DET can include some A-ball/rookie league prospects in return.  Namely, DET has some good catching prospects in Liranzo, Oliveto, or Bolivar.  Or a pitcher such as Kelvis Salcedo or Lucas Elissalt.  Players who won't need to be added to the 40 right away.

Have something coming back such that it isn't for a rental

That's kind of what I've been feeling, too. I think it's because the overall perception of Skubal is that he's at the tippy-top tier of starting pitchers, an echelon Burnes hasn't hit. I think it's the same thing with Mason Miller. These guys that are one-of-one demand a premium, oftentimes.

What were the speculated trade packages for Burnes vs what we got?

Speculative and actual are obviously very different things and it’s possible that Skubal could exceed what Burnes got or what is being rumored if a team goes crazy as Brock mentioned.

Burnes hit that level of pitcher in 2021 but he was trending down by the time we traded him.

This was Burnes in the 2 years before the trade - 75 ERA-, 83 FIP-, 79 xFIP-, 21% K-BB

This is Skubal in the last 1.5 years before the trade - 57 ERA-, 60 ERA-, 61 FIP-, 28% K-BB

Burnes peak was in that Skubal range. In 2020 and 2021 Burnes was 55 ERA-, 40 FIP-, 57 xFIP-, 29% K-BB. If Burnes had kept up that level in 2022 and 2023 he would have gotten us a much bigger haul.
