But I can't see Stearns doing that.  He would look so unbelievably foolish, especially if Freddy turned it around after getting here.  And Peralta's value is much lower now than the Jett/Sproat package, so the articles combining the two trades would practically write themselves.

What I can see happening is the Cubs trade for him.  Familiarity with Counsell, coupled with their ongoing desperation for starting pitching that can stay healthy.  That would make sense.

I've already come to terms with Freddy going to Chicago.

On a separate poetic note - not that Mets fans don't have enough to go crazy over this year - but if we go back to back games where Freddy gets shelled and then Sproat throws a gem...

Is it really possible that Joey is a serviceable, even good player when he can just play 3B and not have to look over his shoulder about playing time?

It's possible, but should the Brewers be all that picky at this point? They really just need someone at the back of the rotation, they don't need Ace Freddy (if that ever really existed anyway).

I don’t think it would be funny at all.

I think returning to a familiar place might be what it takes for Peralta to be as much of a contributor as anyone else that they might acquire.

His Savant suggests that he's basically the same pitcher as 2025 but he's giving up more contact and the Mets defense is doing him dirty. The Mets aren't stupid enough to change what the Brewers were telling Freddy to throw, they told him to keep doing what he was doing. 

His xwOBA went from .289 to .303 (a regression, but hardly terrible and still better than his 2024 xWOBA of .307. 

His actual wOBA went from .270 to .342 (!!!!).

No change in average exit velocity and lower launch angle plus lower strikeout rate means more balls on the ground into the crappy Mets infield defense. 

Every analytics team in baseball and the Mets themselves know that he has more value than his 2026 numbers. There will be plenty of interested teams. He doesn't even have to change his approach, just swap the defenders behind him and he'll be fine.

I'm not so sure. The swing and miss and k-rate both regressing substantially in combo with the extension falling off once again is pretty concerning. One of the reasons he was so effective was his ability to generate extension from a small frame to create such a low release point creating a vertical approach angle that was really difficult to square up. His extension being way down makes his profile a lot less interesting.

That makes me wonder if the Crew has a better strength and conditioning program for developing the strength and flexibility needed to shove down the mound a little further. 

It also makes me wonder how much choice these athletes have in their own offseason/preseason training programs.

While I hope Frelick's shoulder checks out okay, I think Lara is a much better fit for this team than Frelick, specifically with his ability to hit LHP.

It's possible though with Freddy his extension has been trending down for years. His extension was best before he kind of really filled out. Like his extension peaked at 7.3ft in 2020 and has trended down basically every year since then to now 6.5ft.

Contreras isn’t going to play every day……makes sense to get Gary in there against the lefty.

Also not sure it means anything but Sproat has been way better with Sanchez catching him than Contreras.
