I wonder if Quero is going in a deal?

Yah, Naylor feels like a replacement of the #3 on the roster. No way he is taking Sanchez’s spot. Not today, not tomorrow.

Quero has got to be a popular piece for us to move in any notable trade.

This has the feel of a precursor move reshuffling the roster and creating space before a targeted reliever gets added, especially if one or two of the guys coming here from Cleveland don't have to be put on the 40 man.

IIRC both were on the 40 man roster in CLE so no luck there..

BTW- Bo Naylor was trash on the ABS challenges, hence why he was sent down once Patrick Bailey was acquired by CLE earlier this year..

Don't think this is a precursor to anything, just a boring trade that happened to be near the deadline Naylor the potential backup next year.

Which do we think...

Gary Sanchez going in a deal with multiple teams looking for catching at the deadline?

or

Jeferson Quero moving as a piece in a bigger deal?

Surely we have enough lower value prospects of our own to trade that we don’t need to trade Sanchez to get prospects to flip.

Sanchez’s bat isn’t to shabby. Idk if I’d want to trade him for Naylor’s black hole to be #2 or have Quero get sporadic ABs and probably be a black hole too.

With multiple teams looking for catching and RHH power bats, Sanchez may be a somewhat hot commodity in the next couple days.

LOL!  They can have him.

EDIT:  just saw Naylor sucks on ABS as well.  Great, now we have a catcher that can’t hit a lick and sucks on defense.

atleast Gary hit an occasional homer in a 16-3 game off a position player to keep his OPS at .800

I sure hope we didn’t deal Yoho from an area of team need if it isn’t at least a precursor to acquiring more bullpen help.

If I have to guess, Naylor gives us 3rd catcher depth if Contreras or Sanchez get injured. Quero doesn’t seem to be much of an option right now, and I don’t think we have any other legit catcher if someone gets injured. Next year, he becomes our backup catcher. As has been said, the Brewers don’t seem high on Yoho and maybe they see something in Heuer the pitching lab can fix.

I’m guessing we will be adding a ML reliever or two, so Yoho likely wasn’t going to be on the roster in August/September anyways. If I want to dig deeper, there are plenty of teams that could use a catcher, and maybe Sanchez could be sold high.

(I’m not sure how to make the font blue using my phone, but the following comment should be in blue):

Or maybe the Brewers will make a Haderesque trade and trade Contreras with 1.5 years left.

My very first thought when I saw this headline was "Quero is gone". Could be wildly wrong. That was just the instinct.

Why do we assume Naylor is anyone’s replacement? His bat is useless and he’s terrible at ABS. He was a 1st round pick all the way back in 2018 and that means nothing now.

I could see him being the backup catcher in 2027 here but his defense better be Johnny Bench good to even justify that.

You sure Naylor was on their 40 man?

He was optioned from the mlb team on 5/9/26 to Columbus (actually all the way to down to extended spring training).  Hasn't been back to CLE since and no other transaction notes on him.

MLB website already has  players removed/ updated to the CLE roster.

Naylor may make you feel differently.

Naylor is almost a younger version of Sanchez. Low average, Low OBP some homers. Adequate not great behind the plate.

I get the allure. Left handed hitting catcher who has already shown MLB power. They must believe they can coach him up further.

I think this is the answer.  Quero hasn't caught in a little over a month (6/26) for a reason.

A nice distraction as we wait for the bigger move. I guess I’m concerned that it signals what we feel about our upper level catchers right now.

I love Quero I absolutely do but if you can get some decent value for him at the deadline I would understand it especially if it means not parting with more of the highly rated guys. His arm is just sadly shot at C (compared to what it was)

Assuming this move also means that Lockridge comes back up (to replace Perkins).

Need to make a 40-man move for Lockridge first?

Yeah, I don't know. It was just the first thing I thought of. Young guy, positive WAR every year until now - MLB experience. Quero might be a sell high candidate in my eyes. With a lockout looming and Dinges/Wood a year away this gives you at least something in the cupboard if teams are trying to get Quero, etc.

Maybe he and Quero are the combo in '27 and we ship out Bill this off season, who knows. Like I said it was just the first thought I had when I read the headline.

Trading for Naylor to be anything other than an emergency 3rd catcher is shameful. Be that 2026 or 2027. I can’t imagine we would be focused on our back up catcher for 2027 at this important of a deadline.

Maybe Perkins/Yoho were on their way out by Monday and we just traded for Naylor just incase Quero is traded. I just can’t see us really concerning ourselves in July 2026 acquiring a garbage back-up catcher for next year.
