I do not have even the slightest feeling of sadness.

For quite a few years I have thought that it was more likely than not that I wouldn’t see a Brewers World Series title in my lifetime.

I’ve had a pretty good decade so far with my favorite NBA team (which I honestly don’t follow as closely as I did when they first came into existence in 1968), my favorite college football team, and my second favorite college basketball team win titles. And the Packers have won enough titles in my lifetime that I never had to imagine what it would be like for them to win one.

But, since 1970 my greatest sports wish had been a Brewers World Series win. And now that it’s happened, it has been every bit as enjoyable as I thought it would be. And it will be a wonderful memory for as long as I have a memory.

I realize that if the Brewers win another World Series it won’t have the same feeling for me and the rest of fan base as this one. But instead of sadness about that, I m happy that I will never again see the Brewers on the list of teams that have never won a World Series, or a list of the franchises that have gone the longest without one.

Just as good, Cubs fans can no longer say “so what if the Brewers have won 6 division titles since the Cubs have won one in a real season. We have the ring. “

Good times.

Excellent post!

Although I think you're correct, the Hall of Fame is going to have to start adjusting its criteria soon or nobody is getting in. Many of the prior milestones used as the barometer are obsolete. SP wins, Ks, 3k hits, 500 HR...while these things aren't quite unattainable, the game has changed a ton, innings are down, the same hitter might face 4 different pitchers in a game, etc. They're going to have to start easing up a bit.

I have been thinking about this a lot.

The more teams search for production from players between age 22 and 27, the less likely they are to pony up and pay a 35-40 year-old player.

If the MLB gets their way and kills the possibility of drafting out of HS, that would be the death of the 20-year career.

I do think the Brewers should retire #22. I don't think Yelich is a HOFer, but his stat line will end up being close to the stat line of HOFers in the future.

I think 10 years from now, we'll see some 48-55 WAR players who had a 12-16 year career.

This also makes me wonder if they will reconsider the 10-years-of-service-time rule. It feels like careers are shortening because of team financials. I wonder if they'll drop that service time number down to 9 or 8.

Believe careers are more shortening because of ramped up PED testing, and pitchers chasing velocity / spin above all else.

From 2005 (first year with a positive PED test) through 2026, there have been eleven position players to put up at least 30 WAR from age 30 onward, plus another 22 with between 20 and 30 WAR.

From 1983 through 2004 (roughly the same amount of time before that), there were 24 players to put up at least 30 WAR from age 30 onward, plus another 34 with between 20 and 30 WAR.

The best Age 30 onward player since 2005 (Adrian Beltre with 44.4 WAR) would be sixth among Thirty Somethings from 1983 to 2004. David Ortiz is 3rd since 2005 with 36.1 WAR during his thirties, that total would rank 13th (behind the legendary Tony Phillips) on the 1983 to 2004 leaderboard.

The most innings anyone has thrown in their 30's since 2005 is Verlander (2,023 IP) before a drop off to Bartolo Colon (1,864), RA Dickey (1,840), and Max Scherzer (1,808) as the only other guys over 1,800 IP. From 1983 to 2004 there were twelve pitchers over 2,000 IP and another nine with at least 1,800 IP in their thirties.

Guys like Utley and King Felix making headway on the last few ballots is a good sign that the voters are slowly coming around to the changing landscape.

Yes! Great analysis. Felix getting in would be a positive sign in the right direction, with many voters starting to give more weight to the "peak" than they used to. I could see Felix getting in by the 5th or 6th ballot at his current pace.

Voters don't like to leave blank ballots and many will do full 10-player ballots so I think we'll continue to see preferences adjust as the candidate list changes.

I'm still waiting for the voters to be more friendly to relief pitchers.

I'm still in shock. Can't really come up with the words to describe how much this means to me and my family, and the city and state. Unreal.

Pat Murphy is so obviously getting a statue in front of Am Fam, right?

Just incredible that he's done it in a mere 3 years while his predecessor, close friend and literal Milwaukee son blew it all in a treasonous money grab. Hollywood couldn't even script that.

And to think very few of us( me included) were very excited……or even happy with the hire!

But Yeli told Mark and Matt that the clubhouse was behind Murph……and my guess is that is what helped push him over the finish line for the job.

Rest is history.

I can't believe I didn't comment.  I don't really remember my thoughts at the time, I'm sure I just thought "whatever" as I do not remember having strong feelings one way or another.

Bringing back old threads like to is sometimes cringy.  I don't think it really proves anything other than sometimes we say dumb things, and sometimes we say brilliant things.

I think it's interesting to look back at the thoughts that were happening at the time. But I'm not looking to laugh at takes that were opposed to moves though. I think most of the time those posters have valid reasons for the way they felt and shouldn't be called out retroactively for it.

I was glad that the heat of my take peaked at thinking that Murphy was an unexciting hire. At least it didn't boil all over the stove and make a mess.

I mean, it was an unexciting hire. It just turned out to be the perfect one.

Once I heard that the brewers were basically going to keep most of the staff after counsell left I didn’t think it was going to be as big a deal as people made it out to be

I hate building statues for people. Sports, military, political, whatever. Just a terrible idea for anyone, anywhere. Take a page out of Conan O'Brien's playbook and build them out of a soap that dissolves over 10 years.

If you're looking for memorabilia, gear, swag, whatever, absolutely do not buy the Frost Buddy water bottle. I didn't, so I don't know the quality, but that company clearly has no respect for its potential customers.

I came across the product on Facebook reels. They are using "influencers" for their marketing - no idea if these people are known influencers or if they are just trying to make it look like they are - and they don't even have the common sense or even common courtesy to run the correct ads.

So far, I have seen Frost Buddy water bottle ads that have the following glaring errors: a) Brewers won in 7 games! - multiple versions of this b) Brewers beat the Braves, c) "Tampa Bay" Brewers, d) a Red Sox water bottle. **** youuuuu.

The Packers changing street names was an interesting twist on things back in the 90s after they ended their drought. A few of you folks who know the ins and outs of the stadium maybe can answer this better - are there any smaller streets leading to/touching the stadium area that we could change to "Pat Murphys Way" or "Uecker Avenue" or "Yount Alley" or whatever?
