Hopefully Woodruff can go deep in the game tonight to give the bullpen a break. Even better, score enough runs to avoid any need to use Williams or Hader again. I suspect Williams might be out tonight, and maybe Hader too. Turning 3 games in 4 days into 4 games in 5 isn’t ideal.

 

I wonder if Peralta will be going on the IL and another reliever will be coming in to cover some innings if needed.

With maybe the exception of Tyler O’Neil (2-for-7, 2 HR), Woodruff has absolutely dominated these Cardinals hitters over his previous 97 plate appearances against them (has held them to just a .374 OPS!).

 

I don’t consider myself a greedy person, but man would I love to see the Brewers have some success against Lester tonight.

Seems like everyone is pretty confident it's minor. I know lots of folks won't feel good until he's striking guys out again, though.

 

Overall, I think it ended up about as positive as you could hope after leaving the game that early.

I sure hope we stop with the 6-7 days of rest between starts in September. Needless to say it would not be ideal having a 5 man rotation in the playoffs…

Part of the reason we may be seeing such a successful rotation is due to the decision to buy into more days off and not abusing our arms. They’ll get plenty of enough abuse come playoffs. The long game has worked out even when a lot of fans wanted to see match ups being played in June.

I'm kinda expecting them to ramp up to a normal 5 man rotation soon, and then have guys skip a turn right before playoffs or maybe just throw like 2-3 innings or something their last turn before playoffs.

I would agree they won't. How you have it outlined is probably more or less what they'll do in my opinion as well. It's certainly possible starters will have a little more rest, while it's also possible we might need to ask one of these guys to pitch on short rest at some point...which will probably be a little harder to do if a guy is used to pitching every 6 days versus every 5 days. For that game 4 I'm kinda anticipating Lauer/Houser or Anderson/Houser to each pitch 3-4 innings as a combo 4th starter with the other moving to a pen role.

This is a game we really need to win by at least four runs. Dollars to donuts both Williams and Hader are out.

Like many of the mediocre lefty starters the Brewers have faced this year, they didn’t do much against Lester when they faced him in DC in May. But, they did take advantage of his successors to win that 7 inning game.

 

The offense has struggled to score the last 3 days, but the pitching has carried the team to wins. Tonight would be a good night for the offense to carry the load.

I’m glad the Brewers put Peralta on the IL. They can use another arm in the bullpen tonight and, if Peralta’s injury is that minor, he’ll only miss one start.

 

I expect him to be held out loner than 10 days, but if he can be back by early September that would be a relief.

I know they had a 7-0 road trip in 2008 and 2015, but I can't find a longer road trip with 1 loss or less from quickly glancing at some of their best seasons.

1973 team went 11-1 in June against the A’s, Angels, Twins and White Sox. All on the road.
