Milwaukee has implemented a ton of traffic calming projects all over. I've seen it work more than once. People try to zip past you in the parking/bike lane and they have to slam on the brakes because there's a bump out. But I don't think you can traffic calm your way out of the issue. They have to stiffen the penalties.

Sorry dude, I can't agree with anyone that says phones are not distracting.

I'm not even talking about people who talk on their phones through their car.  I'm talking about the constant amount of people I see with their physical phones on their ear, or holding up to their mouths while trying to maneuver in traffic, through round-abouts, and such.

It's just disgusting to me that there so many people out there willing to put the safety of others at risk while they talk on the damn phone.  If it was only them at risk, I couldn't care less, but with their absolute selfishness, they are fine with risking the lives of others.

This.  Also, I walk a lot and a part of my route is along a busy street.  I can't tell you how often a car goes by releasing a puff of smoke that I can get a contact buzz from.  I have no issue with responsible use but I have no idea how people could drive responsibly in that state.  I know I couldn't.

No just no.  They do that here in Phoenix and you get a ticket at times when the light is green and you are in the middle of the intersection when it turns yellow.  Not a violation but you still get a ticket and have to fight it.

It got really bad down here for awhile.  They have stopped with the traffic cameras as they were horrible.

That is odd. The camera shouldn't even be going off on a yellow light. Those cameras usually are only tracking action at the line anyway...I am not sure how you would be in the intersection when the light goes yellow and the camera decide to deem you in violation. Also, in any state I am aware of with traffic cams, there is still someone reviewing footage. I can't imagine any state has the camera snapping violation and then packaging them up in an envelope without review.

If this is actually happening that is just Phoenix being terribly ran.

Yep, same by me. And my state has told me I can't investigate a driver based on the smell of marijuana pouring out of the vehicle nor do a search because of it. So unless I can get cause by some other means or they've got the drugs just sitting in plain sight, they're easily getting away with it. So prepare for DUIs to get worse, not better.

The only one I can think of offhand is on 43rd just south of Forest Home.  Where are there others?

In Milwaukee, it appears so many of the crashes are teenagers swiping cars and going for joy rides.

There was no one reviewing the violations.  The speed cameras were ticketing people for going 1 MPH over the speed limit.  There was no review it was just picture and then you would get the ticket in the mail.  It was just bad and they stopped enforcing them in 2016 or 2017.  It was basically just a money grab by the city to get as much as they could without actually doing anything.  They stopped after the lawsuits started piling up.

That's not a problem with the technology though, it's a problem with how the technology is used/programmed.  If used/programmed the right way, it's very useful.

MLB TV app on my Roku is bugging me.  But only some of the time.

My wife and I have decided that all home games we will listen to the radio call while we watch the video feed from Ballys.  Since we live in AZ, we can’t just get ok’ Ueck on the radio like normal WI fans.  The great thing is that the MLBtv app automatically syncs the audio and video for you and, when it works, it’s glorious.

However, starting last season and continuing into this one, the app will crash multiple times during the course of a game.  We will be watching the game and listening to Ueck and then WHAMMO! It’s a crash to the home page of the Roku.  It does this several times a game.

Mind you, when we just watch the video feed with the Ballys audio, it doesn’t crash at all.  The “radio crash” happens on both of our Roku players.  I’ve checked for updates, but there are none.   I’ve done the uninstall/reinstall that people on the internet have suggested with no luck.  Even the app support says it’s because my internet connection is not good, which is completely false since every other app we stream does so flawlessly (the wi-fi router is literally ten feet away.)

We’ve resorted to playing the Ballys video feed, muting the tv, and playing the radio feed off the mlb app on our phone or iPad.  That leads to constant manual syncing as best as I can each half inning.

I guess that works but it sure would be nice if the radio crash didn’t occur.

I think there is a lot of legality issues with them. I am pretty sure Illinois doesn't use them anymore for that reason. They put out the signs warning of them in construction zones...but everyone goes 20+ over the speed limit so I doubt they actually exist. An actual cop tests their radar every day and can appear in court. The speed camera does neither of those things. I am guessing red light cameras hold up in court because whether you stopped or not is pretty obvious on camera. Then they just label them the equivalent of a parking ticket because you can't prove who was driving the vehicle.

I think it is kind of ridiculous because 9/10 the camera is just nabbing someone for rolling a right-hand turn...not the guy blowing the entire light going straight at 60mph.

Oklahoma between Chase and Clement. I just read an article that they also put bump outs on a stretch of Capitol near 51st St.

Which is extremely dangerous and kills pedestrians. Right turns on red should not be allowed in urban areas and it seems like some cities are finally figuring that out.

It's mostly school zone speeding cameras where I live. They are extremely effective. Near-perfect compliance of 20 mph driving through school zones.

Recently they have rolled out bus lane cameras and box blocking cameras as well after some state laws were changed to allow more of them. I've also seen them testing some new IR cameras that automatically detect and trigger signals for cyclists which is pretty cool.

Nope, Illinois still has them.  Particularly in school zones.  I got a warning letter for going 6mph over in a school zone about six months ago.  It's on a municipality basis though, not state; some cities have done away with them, and the concerns were more about kickbacks/bribery for installing them than anything (imagine that in Illinois).

I wish they'd use them for people blocking an intersection.  That's a problem here - people think that they can push their way through and that they're more important than anyone else (imagine that in Illinois).

I just drove through Chicago (shudder) to get from Indiana to Milwaukee... I tried slowing down in construction zones, but it was crazy how fast people were buzzing around me.  I normally drive 5 over, but felt like I had to do 10 over just to be a touch safer.  But it was clear there were some that didn't change anything in the construction zones (80-90mph).

I watched the last time I drove through a cop parked like he was set-up for speed enforcement right on I-94 not move with multiple cars going by 10+ over the speed limit. It's almost like Europe down there. I had a colleague visit Italy for a conference and he described it as everyone driving like they were in a road race trying to pass whoever was in front regardless of the speed.

Anyone that believes speed enforcement doesn't work to reduce speeds etc. just needs to drive I90 from the Chicago area to the border. The speeds and reckless driving dramatically reduce at the border (or dramatically increase if you are going south). One state actually polices the roads and the other leaves it to be the autobahn.

That's true. I lived in Chicago for 17 years and I think I saw a sheriff pull someone over south of the border once or twice. Avg speed goes up 10 mph once you are in Illinois.

I was looking forward to the drive to Wisconsin this summer but with the fire problems in Canada, and the likelihood of it worsening through July, I think I'm going to fly instead.

I am a bus commuter.  The City of Madison just redid their routes (which part of that bugs me), but they announced that the buses on Monday will run the Saturday schedule because of Juneteenth.  I work for UW and it's not a holiday for us; we still have to go to work.  The Saturday schedule with the new routes requires me to transfer buses, takes considerably longer to get to work, and the bus does not get me to/from work at my normal times.

I am absolutely shocked that UW does not give its employees off on Juneteenth.

My 2.5 year old son is literally deathly allergic to milk (to a point where we don't even keep it in the house). On his first day of preschool, they poured him a glass of milk. 🤦. Then after he ingested some, he started having an anaphylaxis allergic reaction. The school then didn't even come close to following our emergency protocol we sent them. 🤦🤦‍♂️. The school told us they were trained in using EpiPens which they clearly weren't as they didn't monitor for symptoms, didn't call 911, or time in-between uses of the EpiPen. 🤦‍♂️🤦🤦🏼‍♂️

I could write so much more about what else went wrong too. Anyway after spending most of Monday in the ER (which is standard for this type of reaction), my son is ok and appears to have no long term health concerns.

My wife and I decided we weren't going to send him back...but we did meet with them yesterday and that went well. We could see that they wanted to change. If they can show that they can improve the situation, have a safety protocol in place, we would consider sending him back. Until then, there is no way he is going back.

They'd have to get legislative approval, and anyone who even casually follows the current Wisconsin legislative climate knows that would go nowhere.

Juneteenth is also not a holiday for (non-UW) state employees, which made me as surprised as NMF to see that Metro is reducing service on Monday.  It must be a holiday for city employees, maybe also county.

(Googles a bit)

Indeed it is! https://www.wortfm.org/juneteenth-has-yet-to-become-a-paid-holiday-in-wisconsin/#:~:text=But Wisconsin is one of,may opt to do so.

My sister is looking for an apartment & had a showing scheduled for Monday, They notified us it has to be re-scheduled because of Juneteenth. THAT was surprising.
