What I saw the last two days was a couple of the better starters in the NL pretty much on top of their game regarding stuff, velo, location, working from ahead. When that happens they'll hold down us & pretty much everyone else, too. Their relievers on Monday were very good also. What disappointed me was the lack of success yesterday vs Dominguez & Strahm who both looked vulnerable. This series so far has boiled down to two excellent games decided by a few key ABs. Ours were horrible-looking failures By Contreras Monday & Hoskins yesterday, and a failure each night by Turang that weren't bad ABs but still fell short.

If they were to lose today & Ashby somehow pitches well, that might be a case of losing the battle but winning the war. I'd be shocked if he looks that impressive but we'll see. Philly might have a somewhat watered-down look with a flight to London coming up, but scoring is the bigger problem, at least in this series.

Someone tell me I shouldn’t be worried about Ashby’s 7.83 BB/9 in 43 innings in AAA this year

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Don't worry about it.  All good.

We should have held Chad Patrick back an extra day and went with him over Ashby. Patrick deserves it, Ashby was pretty good his last start but at no point deserves a start today.

Once a guy is on the 40 man, then a team can choose to use him at will...i.e. when he is looking good.  The decision to put a guy on the 40 man isn't to be taken lightly, however.  If there are alternatives, then usually those alternatives should be used, e.g. Ashby.

I wouldn't worry about it. The Phillies lineup is good so they should be able to get hits well before a walk happens.

EA Sports...It's in the game...until we arbitrarily decide to shut off the server.

He's been better than that lately. Having said that, his starting today is more a byproduct of our having to go so ridiculously deep into the organization due to injuries than anything else. I'd love to see him be able to continue to build in Nashville. It is what it is.

Yes, if I remember right his last 2 outings were pretty good in AAA but the Philly's are a whole different animal.

They were. But you'd have to say "relatively speaking", and underline it about five times. I'll say this much, if we have to roll the dice for someone to start today, I guess better a LHP vs this group.

Maybe Ashby will prove me wrong, but count me as one who is not sold on him.

I think that's pretty much everyone at this point until proven otherwise.

Has anyone ever thought about, much less cared about, the Brewers record for most consecutive games started by teammates to start a season?

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I think it's something like 60 games - it came up in the course of the story of them forcing their way back into the lineup. They're definitely within 10 games or so, so I expect them to break the record shortly if it hasn't already happened.

From McCalvy's article:

They have started each of the Brewers' 59 games this season, and, with one more start in the Philly opener, Contreras and Adames would become only the fifth pair of Brewers teammates to start each of the first 60 games of a season. The last duo to do that was Robin Yount and Rob Deer in 1989.

The longest streak for a Brewers duo is within reach. Sixto Lezcano and George Scott started Milwaukee's first 63 games in 1975.

Technically a violation I guess but seems pretty darn nitpicky to me. Sal glanced, saw Nola was nowhere near being ready so he quick checked his placement with a bat tap and gets rung up. I don’t think that’s what the rule was intended for. Or maybe I’m just salty.
