Updated WC roster preference with a week to go:

C: Contreras, Sanchez, Haase

IF: Hoskins, Turang, Adames, Ortiz, Monasterio, Black

OF: Chourio, Mitchell, Frelick, Perkins

SP: Peralta, Myers, Montas

RP: Williams, Megill, Payamps, Koenig, Ashby, Hudson, Hall, Ross, Milner, Rea/Mears

So, I'm recalling Black and giving him a week's worth of ABs to see where he's at in light of his multi-homer weekend. I can't say I'd have less confidence in him than in Winker last year, for example, so he's on my roster. Collins despite his versatility hasn't shown enough at the plate to justify having him on the roster.

Pitching side of things is pretty straightforward now that it's clear Mis and Yoho aren't coming up. Last roster spot imo is between Rea and Mears. Rea picked up that save against the Phillies, but otherwise he's been terrible lately serving up gopher balls at will, and his stuff is only going to play down in the postseason. Mears' stuff on the other hand could play up, so if he can get some game action this week I think he could take that last spot. I could also see Civale cracking the roster, but without a history of pitching out of the pen I think they'll save him for a possible start in the NLDS.

I'm just sliding Civale back in there. I think he's just been too good and he might have just cemented it. I think he's very possibly a Gm2 Starter, Montas Gm3...

Could be wrong, that's just my feeling.

I'd still like Mears as I felt like he was really on today, but a few blown calls knocked him off his game and I think you'll have to hold onto him for next year...when I do think he'll be a weapon.

I'm pretty sure the on position the Brewers are absolutely not going to go after in Free Agency...a power reliever! The Lab, the youth, we've got so many quality arms...I'd love to see Uribe healthy and having had a season to get ready for this time of the year, but...next year. Same with Mis, Yoho...and we don't lose a reliever other than Ross IIRC. The ones that are gone, Milner, that'll be because they're marginal upgrades(if that) over the LHPers we have and save money.

But that's next year. This still loaded.

I could see a scenario in which a Hall or Ashby start a game and then you bring in Civale or Montas. It's not quite a opener, but you could sorta force their hands.

Really excited about this team...it just feels like a team that's young, plays loose, they're going to be together for a while and this just might be the 2010 Packers team. A year ahead of schedule. Or not. I feel like this year has been a success and however it ends, the future is bright.

Now...lets go get a WS!

I like the idea of a bullpen game for Game 3 if needed maybe Myers and Montas throw an inning or two. I doubt our pen will be crazy overworked but I trust the pen more than Montas.

If Peguero ends up on the postseason roster....

I will rip my hair out if he's on the postseason roster.

Kind of interesting that Zastryzny is healthy and ready to go just as the regular season ends. Seemed to be on the 60 day IL forever.

Would take Peguero over Mears if they are looking for another RHP.

Think they go 13 pitchers at this point with the lack of position players and Frelick hurt.

Wild Card roster, no Milner, Rea, Hudson

Rea is a bit of a surprise seeing that he was one of the most consistent starters throughout the season. They must figure that he is 5th right now behind Peralta, Civale, Montas and Myers. Also, LHPs Koenig, Ashby and Hall negate the need for Milner. Feel bad for Hudson because he was so valuable throughout the season. Surprised that Mears made it.

Rea's fate was sealed with 106 pitches on Sunday.

Yikes ... I'm already nervous about Mears giving up home runs

I'm not sure why he is on the roster

Completely agree.

Because they have enough lefties for this series and they think he’s better than Elvis…….

Pretty much took himself out of the running with 106 pitches on Sunday.

Rea reminds me of Shawn Marcum in 2011. Amazing regular season, we don't get to the playoffs without him. But he is running out of gas at the end of the season and getting hit hard. I think it's smart leaving him off the roster in this shorter series. Give him a breather, and maybe use him in a 5 or 7 game series if needed.

That is a good analogy.  Rea's best usage now is if one of our starters gets a quick hook to go in and pitch 2-3 innings as a bridge.  Hopefully you get the good Rea that stems the bleeding and allows us time to score some runs.  But if you get the more recent burnt-out Rea, it would be less painful if he falters too (since you are already in the hole at that point).

Yeah, if Mears is pitching it's because we don't want to waste one of the 4 other RH relievers that are better than he is.

What's the rotation? Perata/Montas/Myers?

Thanks.

We won’t know until after the game who is pitching tomorrow

My guess is WHEN, not if, they advance to Philly, Hudson would replace Mears on the roster

I can't complain about the roster, I might have liked to see Huddy over Collins or Mone but it is nice to have the pinch runners/feilding replacements for close games so I am fine with that.

Kind of crazy that Bauers, Monasterio, and Collins all made the playoff roster. Probably a pretty good indication that the back end of the bench needs to be beefed up next season.

As others pointed out, when Rea went 106 pitches just two days ago, it just wouldn't make much sense to have him on the roster on 2 and 3 days rest from that. He'd be back for a potential NLDS roster I'm assuming.
