Probably a 2 win player next year. I would have been happy to have him but I’m not upset to miss out on him at all.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

The funny thing about Lux is he has kind of come around full circle. When originally drafted he was seen as a high floor, low ceiling hit/field/run guy whose future value was mostly tied up in whether he'd have the chops to stay at shortstop or not.

Then he had the power breakout from 2018-19 that vaulted him into consensus Top 5 prospect territory. But it turned out that power breakout was a mirage and he isn't an MLB calibre SS, so he's back to being in that high floor low ceiling range as a strong side platoon 2B that is just kind of okay at everything.

Seems like the best realistic case scenario is the Reds get two years of pre-injury 2022 Gavin when he went 113 wRC+ and 2.7 WAR. Best case sorta crazy scenario would be GABP unlocks him and he goes all Scooter Gennett and puts up a couple 125 wRC+ and 3.5 WAR kind of seasons?

If they get two years of around the 2024 Lux that went 100 wRC+ and 1.5 WAR, while also failing to make the playoffs (or at least being competitive into September for the first time in a decade & counting), then yeah, they'd probably have been better off keeping the prospect and pick.

Drew Rasmussen gets two year extension with Rays. When healthy, he has been very good.

Rasmussen: 6.7 WAR with TB

Feyereisen: 2 WAR with TB (currently free agent after poor 2024 and injuries in 2023)

Adames: 14 WAR with MIL (plus a comp pick)

At a glance it looks one sided, but if he’s reasonably healthy then Rasmussen will probably even the WAR in his final 2 years of control. Still, likely to end as a win-win trade.

CBS headline that Alonso is looking at 3 year deal with opt outs.   don't get me wrong, its not like I would 'want' him but if we didn't have Hoskins I'd rather have Alonso at 25 mil instead of him at 18.

If that report is true, someone like Pit should be trying to get in on it. Again, its not like I odn't see his flaws but a team like Pitt needs to get some offense around those pitchers while they can so this would seem an area to spend a bit of money while the pitchers are cheap.  Not unlike our Moose/Grandall signings.  Issue could be that he's only willing to do it with the Mets due to relationship

He actually said he would do this for the Mets only.  He isn't ready to do that for just any team.....yet.

Sounds like it worked out perfectly for Rea. He’d have gotten $5.5m if the Brewers had kept him. Instead, he’ll get $1.0m from the Brewers and $5.0m from the Cubs.

Well other than that he has to play for those Cubs and not the Brewers!

You know, it is such low-hanging fruit to make the joke that all of the former Brewers are going to funnel their way down to Chicago to play for Counsell again but this was just about the least surprising free agent signing of this offseason. Fully expecting Wade Miley to sign a deal with the Cubs as well here in the next month or so.

Colin Rea illustrates how far the Brewers have come as an organization in raising their talent floor.

Since returning from Japan, Rea had a 1.23 WHIP, a 3:1 K:BB ratio for the Brewers (49 starts/58 appearances), and in their analysis they believe they have enough starting pitching depth to make it worthwhile to let Rea go and reallocate his salary for 2025.

15 years ago those stats would have led the team and he’d probably be pitching at or near the top of the Brewer rotation.

This'll be the year he finally starts hitting the high fastball!

Every fastball at Coors is 5,280 feet high to start with.

Could Winker be the DH since Martinez is a FA?
