Cubs at Brewers; Tuesday, July 29 @ 6:40 p.m.: Quinn Priester (3.28 ERA, 3.84 FIP) vs. Colin Rea (4.06 ERA, 4.96 FIP)

Cubs are 15-6 when Rea pitches (starter or relief). Rea is 0.1 WAR this year.

Rea has been allowing walks in July and gave up 3 HR in his last start versus Royals.

I am curious how the Brewers fare tonight.

Priester is 8-0 since his last start in May, and the Brewers are 10-0 in his 10 starts since then(54/11 k/bb in that stretch),so should b a great match up! But then again Peralta/Priester/Woodruff/Miz have a combined 21-2 record since last week in May(201-47 k/bb in that stretch), complete dominance!! Team is 27-5 in these 4 starters appearances since last week in May.

Hope this move for Jansen can get Contreras a chance to heel his wrist and the other ailments catching causes. Giving him a long weekend off wouldn't be a terrible idea,or a week of DH-ing.Will need his bat come September/October. We all have seen the major drop off stats in offensive production from catchers after the all star break with Cal Raleigh's daily critique from media outlets how Judge will runaway with the AL mvp in the 2nd half

I don’t really know how I feel about this catcher trade.  Haase has been with the team and done his job for two years on good teams.    Then you just cut him for a guy who really doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade.    It seems kind of pointless   Especially he’s got to learn the pitchers that Haase has already worked with for two years

Maybe Haase was just so bad with the pitchers that they had to get rid of him?   Murphy didn’t want to play him at all?    I don’t know

other than that it seems harsh.   The only other thing is maybe Contreras isn’t going to make it and this guy would be better off being the full time starter.  Who knows.

I 100%agree,Haase has good plate discipline imo,but hard to get going offensively when u play once a week.Though it's hard to 2nd guess Arnold, Murphy & co.

We will see how it plays out but if Haase can get over the hurt of being cut... he should accept the assignment and we will keep the depth in AAA. Jansen is an upgrade, be it marginal, so this does help the squad on paper.

Low key silver lining if Haase does accept the demotion... Having him working with Myers, Henderson, Patrick, etc in Nashville will be a benefit.

Murphy said he hopes Hasse clears waivers and they could bring him up again for the playoffs like they did last year. On WTMJ radio this morning. So just a poker move I'm guessing.

I am putting out feelers for a mid/late summer 2024 Brewers Colin Rea bit of work tonight. Maybe something akin to his July 9th outing at Home vs Pittsburgh - 6 H, 2 BB, 1 HR, 7 ER over 5.0 IP. That'd be real nice for the Feels.

I would also be open to a Rea pitching line similar to last week’s start against Kansas City.

5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 HR

Relief pitching whoah solvdd

Update: Easton has only allowed 2 ER in 7 IP this year. 1.1 WHIP and 9 SO/9. That’s better than I thought.

I wasn't as over-the-moon as some people were about Haase, but he was a good backup & a good soldier. His being DFA'd WAS harsh. It can be a harsh business sometimes. As long as he isn't wearing an opponents' uni, he's one of those guys you wish all the best to.

I believe, as others have said, that Jansen is an upgrade. What it probably boils down to, is we have no idea if Contreras takes one too many on the hand, aggravates it on a slide or a swing or something, and we need to look to someone else to catch every day, or half the time, or whatever. In that case Jansen getting regular ABs & innings is probably preferable to Haase. I guess that's why we (IMO) overpaid a little w/Areinamo. It's a residual effect of Quero missing over a full season of development.

I actually wouldn't mind a longer look at McGee. He only has 16.2 Major League innings over four injury-riddled years.

Particularly, he had a snake-bitten start where he pitched 6.2 innings of one-hit, one-walk ball. He apparently wrecked his elbow in that start, and had TJ surgery right after that.

Notably, congratulating him from 3B after that start was one Eugenio Suarez... 🤔

Why are the Brewers so determined to give Siegler playing time?

Did Durbin get hurt last night when I wasn’t looking?

I just came here to ask the same question. I don't understand it.

...watch him have a great game now.

While some of us worry about potential roster space being wasted if Miz really gets his workload reduced to preserve innings, we are reminded regularly that the Brewers model is to waste mlb roster space with guys like Siegler.

At this point its just trolling keeping him on the roster, let along starting him.

I hope he goes 4-5 tonight though, lol

I mean the guy does have a .881 OPS, including an OBP over .400, 7 bombs, and 20 stolen bases, in 267 AAA plate appearances this year. His first 25 big league at bats may be a little quick to be baffled by his appearance in the lineup. Could prove to be a valuable piece still 😉
