Okay, so this has the makings of a great pitching matchup. Miz has been absurdly good recently, but Ben Brown has taken some real steps forward, and the metrics suggest that ERA isn't completely a mirage.

Brown has been really good against the Brewers. He threw 7 no-hit innings against them in 2024, He has a 2-0 record with an ERA of 1.00 and 19 strikeouts in 3 appearances (18 innings) versus the Brewers in his career.

Brown has mostly pitched in short relief, but he’s made 2 4 innings starts his last two times out of basically shut down the Braves and rangers for 4 innings. Would be a great game for the offense to stick to the “drag him” mentality.

Amazing win last night. If the Cubs can beat Miz today that brings momentum right back to them going into the finale. If we take Gm 2 they might straight melt down. Their Reddit board last night was a treat.

It would be nice to somehow have both Bauers and Vaughn in the line up today.  Bcuz Ben Brown is only a multi inning reliever,  Counsell probably shooting for once through the order with Ben.

I would assume it'll either be Bauers and Mitchell or Bauers and Vaughn, depending on how much Murph cares about getting that LH batter that first AB.

Wind environment looks more neutral tonight. Mostly left to right, 10mph at most We'll see how that holds. Might be some rain too.

Probably a significantly more pitcher-friendly night that last night, especially considering the guys on the bump.

Murph can we pretty please not do the “awww shucks we’re just a bunch of average guys nobody knows us” thing again this year.

I assure you, people do know who Jacob Misiorowski is, who Brice Turang is, who William Contreras is, who Christian Yelich is, etc.

The need for pro athletes as a group to manufacture disrespect and find a way to place a very large chip on their shoulders will always be amusing to me.

Can I ask why? Being disrespected is such a big motivator to perform. If it doesn't happen naturally and you can manufacture it yourself to give yourself an edge .. isn't that a good thing?

Michael Jordan was the king at creating fake disrespect from an opponent to light his own fire.

The problem is we're playing well as a team and I would imagine it is hard to upset the apple cart when we have momentum.

During this current 14 W - 5 L stretch the Brewers are on they've had Perkins (18 PA of -53 wRC+), Sanchez (39 PA of 54 wRC+), Hamilton (47 PA of 55 wRC+), Mitchell (63 PA of 63 wRC+), and Rengifo (65 PA of 71 wRC+) acting as varying degrees of boat anchors. Sal (74 PA of 86 wRC+) and Joey (45 PA of 90 wRC+) have been below average too but at least closer to respectability.

The rest of the offense has been good enough to render all that essentially moot though with a 109 wRC+ (4th) and scoring 5.26 R/G (2nd) over the past 19 games.

Of course the pitchers running the gauntlet with a 2.34 ERA | 2.77 xERA | 2.69 FIP | 3.02 SIERA | 30.2 K% | 0.59 HR9 | 1.06 WHIP | 81.4 LOB% (all of which are best in MLB over the last 19 games) has helped too.

Put it all together and that's a +53 run differential over these last 19 games.

And yet basically nobody predicted the Brewers to win the division. What he's saying is entirely valid.

I don’t understand it at all. The Brewers have been a highly successful organization for basically the last decade now. We are years past the point of playing the scrappy underdog card.

There are at least 5 Brewers on the current roster with All-Star level talent (Turang, Contreras, Yelich, Chourio, Miz).

That is without even counting others who have already been in one, like Woodruff and Megill, and other dark horse candidates like Ashby and Harrison.

It doesn’t come across as motivational and inspiring. It comes across as a little disparaging to the guys who keep getting you back here.

No, just because a lot of people predicted the Cubs to win the division (which could obviously still happen) doesn’t mean the Brewers are being overlooked, disrespected, and “no one knows our names.”

It just means the division is very strong and only one team can win it.

Yeah this trope of his is getting old. Roberts called him on it during the NLCS last year too. I guarantee you most MLB players know the names of most other MLB players, especially the teams in your division.

It was probably 8 days ago I looked at the standings and thought to myself, "Well I know we'll be in the division race at the end, but we'll probably be looking up at Chicago until late August."

i fell for that last year, but never again, they way they erased the big Cubs lead like it was nothing and never stopped after that. Just was a matter of time this year to get some guys healthy. The real scare yet for the league is they arent quite at full strength (Woody/Yelich/Priester/Koenig) and they have a number of very upgradable bats in their lineup.
