I equate this to the Wisconsin Badgers when Barry Alvarez was coaching.  Win the Big Ten, but don't anything different that might win them the National Championship.  Before too long, the opportunity is gone.

This is actually a really good comparison I think. 

All of the elite quarterbacks and outside position groups always went to the big name schools and we had to get really good at a different brand of football to compete. Won us a ton of games, but it always seemed we got out done at the end by a team of alpha athletes.

Badgers fans now are longing for the Alvarez days coincidentally.

What doesn't change is that TOR doesn't have to mess around with it with 20 other teams, a number of whom are also in contention.  They don't have to risk Gausman nixing it for any reason at all.

Brewers traded Lucroy to Cleveland only to have him nix it, and they pivoted to Texas.

A front office is going to make the best deal for their club, if a player has a right to refuse they simply move on to the next best. It would be a good way to get fired to not try to get the best deal because a player simply had a no trade clause.

No interest in Gausman, but he is a good pickup for the Cubs.

I just want to see us add a rental reliever like Senzatela. 

The deadline is not the time to pick up controllable assets since the price is lower in the winter.

All of them. You think they appreciated their GM saying they were going to swing big this year and then not delivering on that promise? What kind of message does that send to them? That their GM won't give them more help because he's too afraid to "go for it", and likes his prospects more then his current roster. Don't talk the talk unless you are going to walk the walk. If your guys think you're swinging big, you better back that up.

You know full well the guys on the team are excited and inspired that the Brewers front office believe in them enough to get the job done without bringing in hired help. This could be the XFactor in them going on a run here. Young guys starting to believe in themselves...

Just as nonsensical to say my thing without any shred of evidence to back it up.

We at least have evidence that they said they were going to swing big and Murph said "this year is different". That's different then past years. The guys hear that stuff, you don't think that gets them pumped? Only to see it be all BS. I mean why say it if you aren't going to follow thru on it?

It’s a trade DEADLINE. That means everyone is jockeying for position and playing chicken until the end. If you have any report,  evidence, halfway credible rumor, or anything to back up your claim that Arnold loses out on deals Monday that he could have made Sunday because he “hemmed and hawed,” please share it.

I feel bad for the people that have read this same exact post in multiple threads, including, for some unknown reason, the game thread.  We get you have feelings about your perception of others feelings.    I wonder in Henderson and the guys that came up with Henderson are sad they didnt trade him for a rental.  If our highest paid player is sad, I would tell him to live up to his contract so the rest of us aren't sad watching him ground to second.  If any of these other grown men are sad they didn't improve the team they should just put it upon themselves to play better.  Be the change you want to see in the world and whatnot. 

If you think this is the year they should have been more agressive with giving up prospects to go for it, thats valid.  You can make an argument for that.  Personally, Im on the fence, it depends on what and for who.  But if you want to drone on about feelings, we've already heard it.  Grown men shouldn't feel bad for themselves because someone better than them didnt get hired at their job (and I highly doubt that they are).  The should man up and be better instead.

It's now officially the opening of the Trade Deadline Countdown Season. The first GO FOR IT!!!!! & MOVE THE NEEDLE!!!!! have been launched.

I for one would like to know exactly what our best offer was for Skubal, and what it would've taken for the Tigers to say yes. Normally we're never privy to this info, but if we can know for a fact that the entire roster is upset at the front office we should be able to find this out as well.

Heres what Id say to anyone on the roster that might be upset with the front office

Contreras - run out a gorund ball and Ill listen to your concerns

Vaughn - if you want the team to improve hit righties better, be thankful we turned your career around

Bauers - you're having a great year, but we resurrected your whole career, just be grateful

Turang - ill listen

Pratt - we gave you big money unproven and you haven't been up long enough to be upset

3b platoon - hit better

DH - youre the biggest reason we dont have salary flexibility besides market size

Mitchell - just worry about staying healthy

Chourio - stop watching strikes and swinging at balls

Frelick - there's the weightroom, use it, and then get back to me

Lara - See Pratt 

And if a pitcher is sad someone didn't come take their job then I want someone more competitive 

Luckily, none of these guys are complaining, its just fans upset at failed trades projecting their feelings on to others.

Suarez was terrible for them but Seattle absolutely turned their season around getting both him and Naylor.
