If all it took was resources the Cubs would be a dynasty and wouldn't need to pay a record price to get someone capable to manage it. Since the Brewers were in the same division as the Cubs the Cubs went to the playoffs eight times to the Brewers seven. That doesn't sound like an exponentially better chance of winning the world series in the future to me. As for the next five years I'll take the team that actually got to the playoffs four of the last five years as opposed to the team that went once in that span. It doesn't take a delusional fan to think the team that actually gets there more often lately has at least as good a chance as one that made it once.

Ah yes, the challenge of going to a large market with infinite more resources than Milwaukee.  Going to be a real slog.  GTFO.

What a waste of time. Everything he said is a bunch of BS. Every answer he gave was just to burnish his reputation and want to look like he actually cares about anyone other than himself. Lies, lies, lies. His answers to the questions remind me exactly how a politician would answer them. I’m disappointed in the reporters (particular Milwaukee JS) not answer any tough questions or hold him accountable to explain his decisions.

Matthew Trueblood believes the 2023 Cubs would have won the NL Central if they had CC as their manager.

Even in a vacuum, that seems far-fetched to me.

Truth, I thought I was the only one.  lol

I just don't see why he is allowed to share his views on the home town message board.

Pat Murphy is really gonna be the choice, isn't he?

I would love to see Will Venables, but he isn't leaving Texas as he'll most likely be the next manager there.

I hope Murphy joins Counsell in Chicago

Counsell made it clear he wanted the market to dictate what his next contract was and got his wish. All the rest is just noise.

He’s no different than 99% of MLB free agents — they don’t really care where they play as long as it’s the most money.

I don’t think the Brewers are being cheap either. Such huge numbers get thrown around in sports it all seems like fake money, but at the end of the day it’s real dough going in his pocket for someone who gets a lot of credit when the team has good talent and wins and gets fired when they have a lack of talent and lose.

I mean the owner of the site isn't even a Brewers fan, what would you expect?

Money spent does not equal championships won either. A team that gets to the playoffs the most have the best chance of winning one over a team that doesn't. If that hasn't been demonstrated amply enough after this post season I don't know what to say. I have shown that both teams are about equal overall and the Brewers are far ahead of late in getting there. For you to say the Cubs have a better chance of winning a World Series in the near future while completely ignoring the last five years of actual production is ignoring all available evidence. Like for instance they've had more resources for the past five years and have failed to outperform the Brewers in four of them. The only time they didn't was in the covid year. Frankly I think you're just arguing to argue now.

But in general those with the most resources/money are more likely to make the playoffs than those without.  The Cubs specifically not much the last 5ish years but there is a correlation to money spent and making the playoffs in mlb.  And let's not forge the Cubs had quite the 5ish year stretch just before which resulted in a championship.

It might be more believable if he'd have finished the challenge here before he left.

In general yes, In the near future no.

this might blow your minds but... a) you can be a fan of more than one team and 2) you can be a fan of a team and still objectively write about a rival team.

Macha was a wet fart, but Roenicke managed the team to the NLCS in his first season.

Who cares that CC was a hometown guy if he clearly didn't want to be here?

they made it that far in spite of Roenicke.

Roenicke was an awful manager.

1) Fan, as in “fanatic,” would seem to preclude divided loyalty, as fanaticism is a jealous mistress.

2) Loyalty to objectivity will ever be in competition with the jealousy of fanaticism, see point one above.

Just popping in to say I agree it's ridiculous having a Cubs fan write Brewers analysis on a Brewers website.

That makes sense he's a Cubs fan, some of what he wrote is absolute tabloid crap!

From the perspective of someone who doesn't live in the Midwest and follows a bunch of general baseball content on the web, Brewers/Cubs/Twins fans can kinda all be grouped together. Wisconsinites are the most feisty of the bunch for sure which I view as a good thing. And Milwaukee's inferiority complex is second to none, especially when compared with anything Chicago. But they all have more in common than they do differences, especially when compared with the coastal or southern MLB fans.

The Brewers/Cubs rivalry at AmFam field is probably the most entertaining since it's mostly Wisconsin-based Cubs fans fighting Wisconsin-based Brewers fans. The Cubs fans that go to games in Chicago are like an entirely different fanbase.

Mind NOT blown … you are either a Brewers fan or another team’s fan

In my old job I frequently had to put together briefs on the Cubs and Cardinals or write road gamers when our local minor league team was visiting Appleton. Other than not having to double check the spelling of the Timber Rattlers’ names, being a Brewers fan didn’t affect things any differently than if I was a fan of the Mariners or Marlins. If you’re good at what you do with the writing and are willing to acquire the requisite knowledge about the other team, fandom shouldn’t matter.
