There would be no arguing because everyone would just blindly accept what the little box says. Much like everyone didn’t complain when there was no little box because it’s so close you couldn’t actually tell even if you wanted to.

Robot umps would probably be more accurate and probably avoid the egregious calls…but I’m pretty confident it still wouldn’t be all that accurate. The strike zone is different for every single player and it is determined by their stance when ready to swing.

How exactly is that box on the screen being determined? I saw a video yesterday that showed a strike call. One broadcast had it as a clear strike, one had it as a ball notably above the zone, MLB game-day seemed to called it a ball, and baseball savant had it as a strike.

inside/outside of the plate should be pretty accurate…but high/low? Seems like a lot of room for error.

I get what you're saying here but I'm positive the umps aren't glancing over to see where the batter's knee is exactly at the time the pitch enters the zone.  I think the ABS would be consistent which would be 100 times better than what we have now.  The hitters could adjust to that much easier than random umps who call the same pitch differently within one at-bat.

I don't think the challenge system will last long either.  Don't you retain your challenge if you're correct?  It's going to make the umps look foolish for missing so many calls.  If you can get every one of them right, why force a batter to challenge?  Seems like a dumb system.

Keston Hiura released by the Tigers.

Amusing tweet someone posted yesterday of Hiura having "packed his bags" in Toledo.  All set to rejoin the Sounds!

I appreciate Keston still uses the Brewers gear.

All they had to do was not gamble on baseball and they still did. What's even crazier is one of the guys bet a total of $99.22 and resulted in $28.30 of winnings. I'll never understand the allure of gambling.

28% ROI, I'll take it!

As of right now there are only 4 teams in the NL with a winning record. Across baseball there are 11 teams with a winning record and 17 teams with a losing record.

If you want to know what the overall state of talent (and health) is across MLB, Daniel Vogelbach and Jacob Barnes are still in the majors.

Yeah I was shocked that Vogelbach still has a job. Every so often I catch myself either going down rabbit holes on reddit about previous trades and remember names that were just a flash-in-the-pan in MLB to pretty good players who kind of disappeared. Littered throughout history are these types but Vogey sticks out a bit. Gotta think his ability to PH and hit the ball 450 feet is a big reason why he's still collecting a check.

He’s using it because it was free premium gear. As a non 40 man roster minor leaguer I bet they don’t buy premium storage gear for the players.

Hiura has probably arrived at his last chance in pro-ball having signed another minor league deal with the Angels who have holes in their roster at  2B and 1B

Seems like a prime candidate to rake overseas.

Welp, so much for Vogelbach.

But the Dodgers' 40-man roster includes Anthony Banda (majors), Nick Ramirez, J.P. Feyereisen, and Gus Varland.

And a good reminder that there is a lot of season left, even if we don't make any big trades Philly getting hit with injuries like us or Atlanta can close that gap a lot.

Every day I learn something that makes it more unbelievable that Hudson was the odd man out in a roster crunch.

Calling all Counsell Lovers.... Calling all Counsell lovers.

Counsell's Cubs lost another one today and are officially behind the Pirates in dead last place.

Nothing makes me more happy for the most astute, highest paid manager in baseball to be at the bottom.

How many managers do you know who embarrassed the highest payroll team in the league so badly that they pushed through a rule change so that it couldn't happen again?
