At playing Euchre?   Or was that meant to be in blue? :P

Jansen  .206/.300/.265/.565
Haase .229/.289/.357/.646

That’s 40 PAs for Jansen, while playing sporadically and learning to catch a new pitching staff midseason. I wasn't a fan of the Jansen trade, but come on.

Haase has been DFA’d twice as a Brewer and none of the other 29 organizations claimed him either time.

Don’t need a magnifying glass to read between those lines.

The only team that thought Haase was worth a 40 man spot the last two years thinks that Jansen is better.

Given their history with player evaluation I’m inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Luis Urias is back, signed a minor league deal.

Just to confirm, as long as a player is signed before September 1st, they could still be eligible for the post season, right?

As long as said human is on the 40 man roster….yes sir.   Look for him to replace Seigler by Sept 15th or so but he will be below Monastario and I think be a good teammate for whatever opportunities come his way.

and I have to add….Seigler will be a big part of our future and is worthy of a utility role on a pennant chasing team (a role he will fill in the years going forward for cheap if not again this year but maybe again this year.)

Great post.  I withdraw my objection to Jansen being on the team.  Its frustrating to watch him thus far, but as you said, when someone only has 40 PA and is very part-time as a player (rarely do you use your backup catcher), probably unfair to expect more.

Probably sucks to go from being a starter to a very part-time player, but he seems to have a good attitude & be a good teammate thus far

Haase has had 2 years to prove himself, Jansen 13 at bats with Brewers.  Coaching staff, front office, and scouting departments made the choice to move on which was ok by me.

If he is put on the roster tomorrow is he elligible? Because I would much prefer Urias over Berroa

This is discussed every year but as long as he is in the organization by 8/31 the Brewers can add him to the playoffs roster. If the Brewers really want Urias on the playoffs roster they can say he is replacing Garrett Mitchell who is out for the year.

Correct. This is one area where the "rules" are kind of pointless due to all the ways around the rules.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I thought maybe they’d send down CR but the probably want one guy who can give them multiple innings in a mop up role……although Fedde can certainly do that.

Wow I feel bad for Yoho. Best inning of his career and he gets optioned the next day while Joel Payamps stinks it up twice in a week and stays up.

Yeah the choice shouldn't be between Yoho and Anderson but Yoho and Payamps.

They'd have to expose Payamps to waivers to send him down.  I'm guessing that was part of the equation. Yoho hasn't exactly looked stellar at the MLB level this year... probably didn't want to risk it.

Yeah, what I figured too.  My guess is that if Payamps hasn't shown something by the time Yoho can come back, perhaps they'll DFA him at that point.  I would have to assume he'd be a non-tender for next season anyways, could be wrong.

It does kind of stink though since yesterday we finally saw a glimpse of the Yoho we've been hoping for at the MLB level.

My question is with 18 games left in the season why would that be a big deal? Payamps is going to be non-tendered in the offseason if he stays on the 40 the rest of the year. Is it a big deal if he rejects the outright assignment after clearing waivers and decides to just go home and not report to Nashville?

Payamps did pass through waivers before, but the Cubs claimed Civale so stranger things have happened.  If he did clear waivers, then the Brewers would have to wait until he cleared waivers in case of emergency and needing to call him back up.

My guess is that they are going to skip Miz's next start, or at least push it back a few days, and thus may need to have a spot-starter/piggyback for a day.

I don't think anyone or even them would say its a big deal.  But its an arm/depth at a time they kind of need it.  you can kind of blow through payamps as needed while up right now then dfa when you need to and lose him then.   Kind of like running a car into the ground before getting rid of it.  In addition, it gives a guy who has been a good guy for a couple years a chance to show something to other  teams.

I would guess that if they weren't up by 7.5 games the decision would be different.  But he's one of the kind of garbage time guys now and after a day where he's used a lot or after like 2-3 straight days of use he'll probably be gone.   I think someone just said patrick has a locker, so he might be the guy gone when that's needed. So sending yoho down first allows him back sooner later on

Doubt the Brewers care if somebody claims Payamps, would save the Brewers money. It's not like a playoff team could use him in the playoffs. Only a matter of time with the likes of Patrick, Megill and Gasser making their way back to Milwaukee.
