There's an old saying, "Dance with who brought you."

Better than the trades in the past that have felt like trades just to make a trade.  Like the Norris and Chafin deals that looked pointless from day one and only produced Chafin memes to show for them.

I know there are 4 hours to go and the brewers are the only NL playoff contender that hasn't done anything in the last 24 hours. I don't want Arnold to go all AJ Preller and act wreckless. Also I understand relief pitching is crazy expensive. A move like Finnegan would have helped though or some power off of the bench would help though.

Especially since I think Finnegan got dealt for the guy who played Ed’s best friend.

I don't get this idea of trying to get bullpen help. The Brewers have plenty of good relievers, plus some starters who are almost back from injury.

There are some people around here who think that relievers should be perfect and never give up any runs.

The reality is if you told these people what our relievers would be at this point in ERA/FIP/WPA/etc., they would have taken it in a heartbeat.

I like Kwan a lot, but how much does he really raise the ceiling?

2-3 wins in the regular season, I’d imagine.

Kwan, Chourio, Frelick in the OF

Collins to 2B, Turang to SS

Less likely to lose 2-1 or 1-0 in the postseason. Plus, majority of our lineup would be 5’8” 🤷‍♂️

Just for fun, a Brewers comparable would be Made, Wichrowski, Birchard, and Childers

Letson is a 50FV like the Padres #2 prospect. Made is a 60FV  if the used Made, there would have needed something coming back.

Kwan has 2.7 fWAR | 3.1 bWAR over his first 102 games this year.

Would be hard for him to match that same production over the Brewers last 54 games after the deadline.

Hard truth of the deadline is even the best player will be lucky to net you one or two wins, which is why the Brewers already getting about four wins from Priester and Vaughn puts them far out in front of the pack before doing anything today.

Juan Soto himself only put up 1.2 fWAR | 1.7 bWAR with SD after the deadline.

If Ortiz’s presumed negative WAR is replaced with someone above replacement level? 🤷‍♂️

I agree with your points. Sure would be nice to win the division by one game.

Is there any chance the Brewers are in on Gore? I know we have a lot of SP but he is a stud.

At the very least, Monasterio has to be upgraded with a utility person who if forced into starting due to an injury wouldn't kill you.  Ideally, that person could play SS

100% and that shouldn't cost much.

Gore, Peralta, Woody/Priester as a top three with Miz as a set-up guy/closer does sound intriguing…

Ortiz has a -0.5 bWAR because DRS has judged him as a -5 defender at SS.

Ortiz has a 0.5 fWAR because FRV has judged him as a +5 defender at SS.

From watching the games I think FRV has done a better job of capturing Joey's defense this year, so I tend to come down on the side of the positive valuation he has on FanGraphs.

But does having Turang at SS & Collins at 2B COST you a win or three & cancel out Kwan? Turang can play short, but shoving him there two-thirds into the season & expecting him to maintain the defense Ortiz has given us, plus Collins being a total coin flip at 2B? If that's the alternative I'd rather stick with Ortiz, try to strengthen the depth some more (maybe IKF?) & PH for Ortiz when needed.

Bednar reportedly to NYY. Probably will setup for Devin along with Weaver. That's a pretty solid backend of the bullpen

IKF please.

Why do you want a second Joey Ortiz on the team?

Other than May IKF has been as bad as Ortiz.

We haven't been a last minute team lately, thinking it's done, but hope to be wrong

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Something to keep in mind - whichever team "wins" the trade deadline with whomever they pick up this week will be fortunate as hell to get the impact to their roster that the Brewers have already gotten from the combination of Priester and Vaughn - trades that were made weeks and months earlier in the season.  Also, the team that "wins" this deadline week will likely wind up giving up a TON more prospect capital than the Brewers did to acquire both of these players, who have additional budget-friendly team control well beyond this season collectively.

I do think the Brewers add a pen arm or do something at 3rd/SS/OF to further improve this roster - they simply have too many blocked prospects/arms in the minors to not use some of them as trade chips to even out future 40 man/Rule 5 rostering decisions where they'd risk losing those same players for nada in return.

One is Ortiz and the other is IKF.

Bednar is a guy I really wanted.  Experienced closer with an additional year of control for a NYY package that is headlined by a prospect the equivalent of Eric Bitonti.

I agree that it doesn’t make sense to make a move just to make a move

But, as someone who doesn’t follow the minor leaguers closely, I often wonder if the Brewers are sitting on their prospects more than necessary. I keep hearing here how bright the Brewers future is because of all the great prospects they have, but we all know that most of those players are not going to be impact major leaguers

Are there any of those prospects that have trade value that the Brewers could part with to acquire someone like Wil Castro or Ryan O’Hearn that would add something to the current team.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Chafin deal made sense since we were thin at LHRPs, but he just completely failed here.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
