I assume we're going to be picking up Canha's 11.5M option, right???

I would like them to, but I would assume not.

Remember they didn't exercise Kolten Wong's option when it seemed like the right call.

Not that it's the same thing, but still.

They did exercise Wong's option. They excercised it then traded him to the Mariners.

I could actually see a similar situation with Canha

I agree -- 100% chance that the option gets exercised because 1/$11.5M is far less than Canha's free agency value and the actual cost to the Brewers is only $9.5M because the buyout is a sunk cost.

I don't know if they will trade Canha or not...it was clear there was no spot for Wong on the roster but the same may not be the case for Canha.

It could all fall apart tomorrow but since joining the Brewers:

302/390/452

One could make the case that Canha was the best bat acquired at the deadline.

Posted in the game thread but I thought I would be it hear as well.

Comparing the Nats and Brewers offense totals so for in the NL:

R/G - Nats 12th / Crew 13th

R - Nats 12th / Crew 13th

H - Nats 3rd / Crew 15th

2B - Nats 5th / Crew 14th

3B - Nats 4th / Crew 13th

HR - Nats 15th / Crew 11th

BB - Nats 15th / Crew 4th

K - Nats 15th / Crew 4th

BA - Nats 3rd/ Crew 15th

OBP - Nats 10th / Crew 15th

SLG - Nats 11th /Crew 15th

There will be no series going forward that will be "easy wins" for the crew regardless of what the "strength of schedule" says.

Doesn't matter who is pitching or who is coming back for the Crew or how many defensive runs they save. They still will give up on average 3 runs a game and we have not shown that we are capable of generating offensive runs game in game out consistently.

We don't hit enough for average or XB's.  Our ability to draw walks and get on base is nullified by the K rate.  The Crew rankings above have not changed that much since late April, at or near the bottom in the NL.

There are not enough Santana's or Canha's to make this offensive unit work.

Games remaining : 3 Phillies; 5 Nats; 7 Marlins; 6 Cubs; 7 Cards; 7 Pirates; 3 Dodgers; 3 Rockies; 3 Padres; 3 Yankees; 3 White Sox; 2 Twins; 3 Rangers - 55 games left I can only see 26 more wins which we lead to 83 wins(2 games above .500).  Might be enough just to squeak but I doubt it.

Brewers have scored the 10th most runs in MLB since August 1st.

Their 26-14 record is 4th best in MLB over that stretch.

Have to agree on the Canha option at this point. It would be nice to have enough depth and competition that the young guys have to earn it more with the bat. Given what the offense has looked recently just avoiding the blackhole problems we had sure makes it look like we've be head to head with LA for that second overall seed, which would be fun.

LOL Typical Brewers move. Nothing like maximizing your chances in what will likely be Woody/Burnes last year. SMH, I should have known they were only going to do little "band aid" non needle moving moves so they can go "see! We did stuff at the deadline". Ummm not really. They still need a big time bat. I'd bet anything this is their last move.

Gotta love the "hope" strategy, they utilize.

Bump. Sorry man, but you opened yourself up to this big time.

No, I couldn't have cared less about Cron/Grichuk. They don't move the needle either. Just like Santana, just like Canha. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.

As long as that pig can make game winning Grand Salami's, I've got no problem with it.

Oh Cripes, you really don't get it do you? Do you ever even have it in you to not fawn over every single move the Brewers make and try to use your fancy "analytic" BS to justify everything they do? How about not being a schill for the organization once and call a spade a spade. They aren't above criticism.

The Cubs are playing Chess because...wait for it, they are actually "going for it". They aren't in the playoffs now, but they are sure trying. They get one bat, and that bat by itself is a better acquisition then the two the Brewers have gotten.

Would you rather have Josh Donaldson or Jeimer Candalerio?

There are some posters on here where over the years my reaction to them absolutely hating a trade/signing makes me think it's going to be a good one.

Those are the antagonists who tend to crap on every move the Brewers make. They probably shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I will admit that I wasn't super excited about the Canha acquisition. It was a need-filler move. But he's exceeded even the loftiest expectations ... to the point where he is looking like the best deadline move any team had.

I thought they did pick up Wong’s option & then traded him for Winker & Toro … am I wrong?

Needles and lipstick are a bad combination. Ask the New York Dolls.

IMHO being underwhelmed by the Canha trade was a perfectly reasonable take. He’s playing over his head right now. It was a solid bet that is working out spectacularly.

What wasn’t reasonable was denying that it might at least be a solid bet, or fervently insisting after Candelario played way over *his* head for two games that the Brewers had clearly lost the deadline, or — especially — berating other posters’ intelligence and motives.

This kind of feels like Moustakas. Guy comes in and gets a few big hits and plays over his head and everyone falls in love with him. He'll be 35 next year. The option seems like too much for me even if it's just to trade him. We're pretty stacked in the outfield as well.
