I can't watch Wiemer flail around again, I just can't.

He needs to stay in AAA if at all possible, but now that is looking unlikely unless they sign someone else from the scrapheap.

Maybe Black gets his shot as an OFer?

Mitchell won’t ever amount to anything as a major leaguer; too many injuries. Has yet to play in more than 68 games in a season since turning pro.

No way to know for sure if his Type 1 diabetes plays a role in his injuries, but folks with Type 1 are more prone to fractures than the general population

The guy has has some bad luck. Really looking forward to see what he can do with the bat. His defense is really good

this is so frustrating....but as Jopal notes, arguably the most important tool a player needs to have in order to be a longterm everyday mainstay in an organization is health - if you can't stay on the field, you can't permanently take up a 40 man roster spot.

Hoping he heals up and is at least an option to get back to Milwaukee before the all star break.

I missed it.  What happened?  Or, how?

I still believe Wiemer stays down to contunue proving and working on his modified swing. I think the smartest route to take here is give Ortiz the chance to be the everyday 3B. Move Frelick back to OF. in a platoon with Perkins with the occasional fill-in for Ortiz at 3B. They can absorb this injury. As to the long-term view on Mitchell...he is certainly developing a reputation of consistently being unavailable in his early career. This type of fracture could be a fluke...it could be an unfortunate byproduct of his medical condition. I wish him a speedy recovery and a chance to get back out there to showcase his talents.

I guess I'd be more in line with the "injury prone" moniker if it was a soft tissue thing like a hammy or his shoulder came out of whack on a swing but a broken bone is just bad luck.

Played 68 games in the minors plus 28 games in MLB for a total of 96 games in 2022.

But yeah, only 187 games in three full seasons since being drafted is a lot of lost development time.

This must be incredibly frustrating for Mitchell.  The guy deserves better luck than what he's had thus far in his pro career.  Hopefully he keeps his head up, recovers and rebounds well and then has much better health in the future.

Sucks. But also happens. Honestly, I have been surprised that we haven't lost more players to injury this spring.

Lots of outfield depth. Speedy recovery, and let's go get hot to start the year.

This probably puts Frelick at 3B on hold for a while. Yelich in LF, Frelick in CF, and Chourio in RF is going to cover almost all of the innings.

Ortiz at 3B and DH rotated between Sanchez/Bauers with a sprinkling of Contreras.

I hope this is what they do. Bauers has played the OF if in-game depth/moves become an issue on a given day. Keeping Frelick in the OF would be easier if Black plays well enough in AAA to give them a possible platoon option at 3B.

Tough break, literally. Murphy’s obviously very high on Mitchell and was going to give him lots of playing time.

Gotta figure Arnold will be tempted to claw back an arbitration year by optioning Mitchell to AAA after recovery. I believe he needs to be optioned for at least 56 days to achieve that.

Well if we're going to absorb an injury, the outfield is the place right? Everyone talking about our depth there all off season, and wanting to trade it away.

This is why you don't sometimes. Injuries will happen. Let's hope someone takes advantage of the situation and steps up.

Mitchell is wearing me out. I'm not as excited about him as some are, and his injuries are more frustrating than anything. I'll take Wiemer, because there's at least a chance of helping the team when one is in the lineup instead of the trainer's room.
