Buying as much duct tape and baling wire as possible to try to keep a starting rotation together. Not an enviable position for Arnold to be in at this point in the season. But it’s worth a shot to see if Keuchel can eat any sort of innings and keep the team in games. Throw that spaghetti at the wall!

Pie in the sky upside is Brewers work their magic and unlock Miley part deux.

As of now he can't be much worse than Rodriguez has been and it should allow Carlos the opportunity to recombobulate in Nashville.

This is a good move. Send Rodriguez back to AAA and see if Keuchel can give us even a month of decent pitching even if the peripherals suck. Best case scenario is Keuchel ends up being this year's version of Julio Teheran. Worst case scenario we gave up cash for a couple bad starts.

I wrote this guy off a few years ago. But not giving up prospects and hoping to get lucky its fine, if any pitching management can still get something out of him its MIlwaukee's.   Throw in that he's a ground ball guy with the Brewers D and its as good of a last chance he could ask for

It's good that he's a ground ball pitcher but he has given up 10 home runs in 71 innings. If he can avoid that he might eat some innings.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I have more hope for Kuechel than I did Teheran when we acquired him last year. If he is close to Teheran from last year good pickup.

So, I'm imagining the logical roster move here would be, what, officially moving Gasser to the 60-Day IL? That would open a roster spot so Dallas can (Slo)'Kuech'?

Low risk move. Those have been working out for us pretty decently lately. If he can keep the ball in the park, this should be an okay trade.

I don't expect much here but for a guy that has made a ton of money over his career and already reached 10+ years in the majors he must really want to pitch and end his career on a high note. We'll see what happens but assuming at this point he starts against the Cubs.

Love this... maybe get a serviceable arm for the season for nothing and if he flops, plenty of time to move on before the trade deadline.

Totally agree,we hit the halfway mark of the season with game 81 tomorrow afternoon..We just need him to eat up some innings.i honestly can't believe the duct tape is still working tbh

Newly aquired (ish) RHP Joel Kuhnel says 'Not so fast, Mr. Kuechel!'. The Brewers staff/brass must have liked what they saw in his past two outings vs Durham. In his last relief outing (after Ashby and Meeker had really done the heavy lifting for the Sounds allowing 14 runs combined - whewwww), 1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 0 R, Kuhnel tossed 29 pitches. He allowed a max exit velo of 88 mph. He has a five-pitch mix (4-seamer, cutter, sinker, slider, change-up) with extremes of 79 ish mph to 96 ish mph. Sits 85-to-94. Primarily works his 4-seamer, sinker, slider. BUT, will use the cutter and change-up to keep hitters thinking. Hitters managed a 0.211 BAA in his June relief work for the Sounds (four outings in total). His WHIP is elevated due to a 2 H, 2 BB debut inning of work. It sits at 1.40 with Nashville. It will be interesting to see how his stuff fares should he stick or if this is a classic Brewers 2024 stop-gap for a future DFA. You really never know this season.

No need to yet since he's on a minor league deal. There's time to see/work with him before he needs a roster spot.

Maybe it'll work out better than I expect it to....at least I'll tell myself that and hope for the best.

Guessing this is most likely going to wind up like a "hope for 4ish innings where he leaves and the game is still winnable" sort of arrangement for a few weeks, and not really do anything to help keep the bullpen fresh.

Would have honestly preferred to let Rodriguez continue providing that level of pitching to keep getting his feet wet in MLB, but I'm not the GM.

His numbers aren't terrible for PCL standards...I'm guessing the Mariners had to let him go to avoid some sort of contract clause triggering that required them to promote him. They have been using a #6 and #7 starter lately with Woo having injury issues so he must have been pretty low on the pecking order.

I do find it interesting that the Brewers and Mariners both saw something in Keuchel since they are two of the better organizations in MLB at evaluating pitching talent. So this could turn out to be a smart move for the Brewers if they end up needing Keuchel to fill a few spot starts.

No issue with a cash deal like this. If anything just the cashe of having done it will help in the clubhouse. Maybe he can roll back the clock for a couple of months.

I'd put him at a 95% chance of him not ever pitching in Nashville. Rodriguez was just optioned to AAA. I'd bet Keuchel makes that next start in the rotation.
