I can't imagine anybody believes Arizona. They would be foolish to not take the best offer in what is sure to be a bidding war. They can sign him after the season if they really are that interested.

Not a surprise

Let’s not waste time on him then and move on.   There are others to be traded for or we have a great team as is and don’t want to disrupt a phenomenal farm system too much..

They have Jordan Lawlar penciled in at 3B next year.   Top 25 ish prospect that tore up AAA.   They aren’t bringing him back next season.

Naylor will likely leave and then you can move Suarez to 1b as he ages.  Plus of course there is DH now in the NL.  Between that and 3B there should be plenty of ABs for a 45 HR guy.   It probably all comes down to the money (for him and Naylor), as hot as Suarez is now lets not forget he kind of fell apart a few years ago and got salary dumped.   But if they have a good relationship (which they seem to do, and I was at our games there this year where he seems to be a fan favorite) and can get him on a 2-3 year type deal while Naylor is asking way more you probably take Suarez.  If a dumb team like NYY gives Suarez 5-6 years then they don't bother.

So I'd adjust your statement to at least one of them isn't coming back, could go either way on which

Lawlar hasn't played in a month on account of a hamstring and only has 84 games | 376 PA going back to last year on account of various injuries. Might be hard to count on him being an everyday guy right out of the gate.

Small samples of course, but some shades of Coby Mayo in the early going too...

Mayo AAA career
852 PA of 128 wRC+ (24.9 K%)
Lawlar AAA career
388 PA of 139 wRC+ (22.9 K%)

Mayo MLB career
138 PA of 42 wRC+ (31.9 K%)
Lawlar MLB career
56 PA of -23 wRC+ (35.7 K%)

Yeah but you just don’t make a spot for an expensive vet when you have high hopes for your under 1 million a year prospect.   Naylor I can see them resigning potentially.   Suarez, they won the trade with Seattle and will cash in now to profit more and hope Lawlar performs in 26 as he is supposed to perform.

For the pro Suarez contingent, does it scare you that he's had substantial home/road splits since he got to Arizona?

2024 - 131 home wRC+, 102 road wRC+

2025 - 171 home wRC+, 124 road wRC+

Total for those years - 148 home wRC+, 110 road wRC+

Even had a big under the hood gap over the two years - .363 home xwOBA, .318 road xwOBA

Oh, Suarez is totally a risky add.   He has sucked in a few prior seasons.  But he has huge power and our team needs it somehow (most likely if we want to be in at the World Series).

That said, he’s not enough of a difference maker to trade two 5-6+ controlled years quality solid starters for.

Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports that the Mariners still consider Eugenio Suárez their top priority after acquiring Josh Naylor from the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

The Mariners weren’t able to get a deal done for Suárez on Thursday, as the competition for his services is believed to be much steeper than it was for Naylor, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still trying. Adding both of the Diamondbacks’ sluggers would go a long way to fortifying the middle of a lineup that already features Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez.

Naylor makes WAY too much sense for us.

It’s hard for me to imagine Suarez going anywhere besides NYY. Currently Josh Vivas is listed on top of their 3B depth chart, and he’s absolutely awful. .164/.270/.255. They are 90% playoff odds so definitely buyers. They love power bats. They have pitching prospects and they don’t mind trading non elite prospects because they can just sign vet replacements to fill out a roster or trade for another guy next year.

I wasn't aware of this, and yes... it does scare me off of wanting him that bad. I still think he'd be a valuable guy to have on the 26-man, but not as valuable as the prospects that would be going the other way.

That's not really that extreme of a home/road split beyond random variation. Chase Field actually tends less homer friendly so it's not like he's just been mashing at Coors.

Suarez can be streaky but he's really been locked in power-wise for a long time now. Since July 1 of last year he's just behind Judge and Ohtani in total HR, and in that timeframe (741 PA) he has hit .279/.339/.604/.943 for a .395 wOBA and 155 wRC+. He also has a solid floor during low-OBP stretches because he's a solid defender at 3B.

He's justifiably worth quite a bit in a trade if we want to go for it this year.

2021 is the only season in which he came anywhere close to "sucking." He's a reliable 3-4 WAR player otherwise, with upside for more given his power gains.

someone on here too, I forget who it was, also mentioned that in those road stats, a good bulk of that damage comes at Coors Field too.

Might be adding the Astros to the mix.  Paredes went on the IL with a significant hamstring injury, and Alvarez still isn't back from his hand injury.

Report that the Reds are looking to add a middle of the order bat. Trading for Suarez would be the most Reds thing ever, I hope he goes there if not us.

I'm sure nearly everyone will think this is too much but my offer for Suarez would be Durbin and Patrick. Sorry but Durbin doesn't have the power to be an everyday third baseman and Patrick has less upside than our other young pitchers. Yes we are giving up a ton of team control for a rental but I believe that both Durbin and Patrick re easily replaceable.

I would not be willing to trade Myers or any of the other higher upside pitchers and certainly don't want to give up any of our super high upside  younger prospects.

Durbin and Patrick is a high price to pay especially for a rental but its one I'd be willing to do.

Isn't it possible that Turang moves to SS in 2026, and Durbin moves to 2B?

I don't think he is locked into 3B in the future, in fact, I'd bet against it.

I’d move Yoho as part of a package but no way I’m giving up guys like Peña and Henderson for a rental.

Yeah, if it's Yoho, I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought.

You have to pay more than the comp pick the D-backs are going to get for Suarez. That's... probably not going to do it.

I'm thinking with all the teams that want Suarez and his numbers, you're looking at something closer to Henderson AND a lower level prospect or Wilken+. That's what I wouldn't do.

But Yoho and Lara or Yoho and Boeve? That's an easy decision to me. I think it's going to take a lot more than that. The "it's time to go all in," is more the Cubs this year with Tucker set to be a FA and them making. That was a little desperate and now they really kinda have to pay him 500M+ or they traded for a year and a supplemental pick.
