Bo Naylor, Codi Heuer to Crew for Perkins, Yoho

This seems like a trade made at the deadline but not a deadline trade. If one views it that way it makes sense. We shuffled couple bottom of the roster types. That happens pretty regularly. Obviously the the fans thought more of Yoho than the team did. The fans saw the next air bender while the team saw a mediocre reliever who had control problems. North Shore will be sadder to see him go than the team will.

This org is always trying to win on the margins and thinking farther in the future than most of us are. I love it. 
 

Not sure why the Naylor hate for a guy having a down year and us needing a backup C in 2027. Classic Brewers buy low move.
 

Yoho has show flashes but I don’t think he was ever going to be a high leverage guy so we’re clearing space for incoming pitching upgrades.

Low key my favorite type of fan over reaction is the "you can't make a move unless it is THE move" kind of thing.

Packers sign a CB in free agency - fan response "WHY ARE WE SIGNING THIS GUY WE NEED OFFENSIVE LINEMAN".

It is like your front office has to ignore any phone call unless it pertains to one specific area of need.

Might be a pre-Quero trade. Quero ain’t the C of the future any more, his shoulder is f’d. So maybe this isn’t a Sanchez replacement maybe they are moving Quero and Naylor will be the AAA C depth.

Pitching staff clearly never believed in MLB Yoho. Weird trade. Then again, this is the Brewers - breaking out their deadline work trading for Triple-A depth and a future 2nd/3rd catcher option.

I think people attached onto the idea that he could be the next Devin Williams with the big screwball like changeup. Never was gonna happen with how much slower he throws it. Who knows maybe it works out elsewhere I liked Yoho and feel like he didn't get the fairest shakes here. I am excited to see what the FO sees in Naylor. 

As for Heuer theyll get him to throw a cutter with his already elite extension and base pitch mix they like.

Maybe Perkins/Yoho were on their way out by Monday and we just traded for Naylor just incase Quero is traded. I just can’t see us really concerning ourselves in July 2026 acquiring a garbage back-up catcher for next year.

Before cranking up the outrage machine. Pay closer attention to what’s going on around MLB. Catching depth is scarce, and teams that have it are able to trade it away for value. 
 

Detroit was able to get a AA pitcher with a chance from Baltimore for Jake Rodgers a rental catcher playing on a $3M contract who was just DFA’d. 
 

 A little harder to isolate but Logan O’Hoppe  was traded from the Angels to Texas for a 19 year old with promise.

Little wandering side quest from my brain... I wonder how this affects Ginger Paulson and the folks in those positions when stuff like this happens. 

Put all the time in to discover/go to bat for. Have him picked. Watch the rise and call up. Then overnight he is gone.

Not your job once after they are picked obviously but I wonder to what degree there is sadness, etc

Naylor is not a bad pickup, definitely not an exciting one though. Think this trade is more forward looking to next year and beyond but might also give us flexibility for another trade this year. I was not too attached to either guy we sent out.

Smells like a buy low on Naylor with the added bonus of breaking the outfield logjam a bit. The Brewers love planting seeds for the future.

Yoho will do well I’m sure. They’ll trade for a guy with a repertoire that matches what they do better.

Made off the table, if it includes Henderson either they wouldn’t do it, Pena for a rental seems extremely unlikely. If they were to send one of those 3 it would likely be Pena tho.

Nothing earth shattering, but mainly sets them up for some flexibility to trade Sanchez and/or Quero while also setting up Naylor as the backup C for next year, where he should have similar expectations as Sanchez or Quero, at least for that first season.

BTV misses the mark most of the time in general, but determining values of relievers and other "on-the-margins" types is where they REALLY miss the mark.

The Brewers are not looking to trade Gary Sánchez, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.

The acquisition of Bo Naylor in a trade with the Guardians earlier on Saturday seemed like a potential precursor to a Sánchez trade, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Rosenthal and Sammon add that the Brewers view Naylor as another layer of protection behind starter William Contreras heading toward the postseason.

Will be interesting to see what bullpen moves are made with Yoho out.  Whenever I was close to convinced he would be a solid bullpen piece he managed to have a bad appearance.  

Can't see keeping Quero on the roster with this move.  The shoulder concerns moving him to DHing lately and not a good enough bat if you're not getting a catcher out of it make it seem like he's no longer in the cards as catcher of the future.  Which puts more pressure on opening the wallet to extend Contreras cause Dinges will have to really improve defensively to be an MLB catcher.
