I am way more interested in adding Yordan Alveraz from Astros. They will be selling and rebuilding. A dh is not as costly as a number 1 starting pitcher.

Yordan will be an interesting case come the trade deadline. Yes, he's a DH.....but also a guy that's probably going to be on pace to hit around 50 home runs if he stays healthy. He also will have 2.5 years of team control until he hits FA.....but not at a real cheap price either. Looks like he's making about $27M this year and the same salary the next two seasons. For us to get involved in a guy like Yordan, there's no doubt that the Stros would have to pay down some of that salary, which would then only increase the trade package going back to them.  On top of that, we have Yeli who's already occupying that DH role most nights. So, I HIGHLY doubt we're going to be a player for Yordan come July.....for several different reasons.

I wonder if some of this depends on extensions and the new CBA.  This might be a little bit of a reach, but if the Brewers have some sort of a framework in place to extend either Contreras or Turang, I think they have the capital needed to be a player in the Skubal situation.

Another player in great demand that’s likely to elicit a bidding war — so no thanks.

We don’t “need” Skubal or Ryan to win a title. We have the postseason big 3 with Miz-Harrison-Woodruff. Henderson makes a nice 4.

Spend the prospect capital on HL bullpen arm/s.

I like the optimism but I think you'd feel pretty silly if you go into an elimination game and Woody comes out throwing 88 MPH fastballs.

It'd be interesting to go back and compare with CC, that's the clear analog here. Yes, Brantley had a good career, but would you take back that trade? I bet most everyone says no, that was legendary.

LA showed us what having a shutdown pitching staff can do. This year could be the same thing all over again. Maybe Woodruff will be ok, but Skubal is the type of talent that should make one think seriously about it, and the fact that the system is so stacked should make it even more palatable to do so.

Is it going to hurt? Of course. There would probably be someone going back who will have 3-5+ years of success. Otherwise why would Detroit do it? I tend to lean more "bites" than "all-in" approach philosophically, but that three-headed monster in October would be awfully compelling.

Ultimately I'll trust that Arnold isn't going to do something stupid, and if he doesn't pull the trigger, it's because the asking price was crazy. If he does, then I'll enjoy the heck out of it.

Are we certain they're going to be looking to move him? Everybody seems to think so. HOU is only 6 games out, albeit in 4th place currently. But we just hit June.

Just saw one of the national insiders on twitter say a FO exec told them there's no chance Alvarez gets traded this year.
