Maybe he was given the choice of this or an IR stint with no guarantees on a spot when he's eligible to come back?

Not that I'm too worked up about it, but I'd rather have the depth hanging around for two more weeks than not.  Never know who else gets hurt or someone does really poorly.

This is the only thing that makes sense to me. They were going to IL him after the game and he didn’t feel the injury warranted going on the IL so he basically just asked them to move on instead in hopes that he can catch on elsewhere rather than just sit and not play for the next couple weeks.

I don’t see the Brewers of all teams just suddenly deciding during a game that they’re done with a guy.

I'm assuming that the MLB CBA prevent teams from DFA-ing a player who is injured.  My guess is that they 1) saw LR get dinged up in the game and subsequently thought they might need CP if they had to DL LR and thus pulled CP from the game, and then 2) had to have a medical exam of LR to make sure that he wasn't injured and could DFA him.

Now that LR has been medically cleared, they can DFA him and not have to put him on the DL.

I wasn't anticipating this. I also assumed IL. I think there is an above zero chance he gets claimed and we get relieved of his salary. Coincidentally he is the kind of guy we usually look for (underperforming from career norms/change of scenery needed types)... so someone else with a hole at 2b/3b maybe takes a flyer ..

I fully supported his signing (thinking he'd be able to product at least a 700 OPS) and I fully support his release.  Time to move on.

This will give Pratt a chance to see if he can be an everyday player this year...and if not still have time to trade for someone at the deadline.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

IOW,  MLB (CBA + DFA) +LR +CP = DFA - LR + CP. Did I get that right? 😄

Truth be told, I don't think calling Pratt up in the middle of the game had anything to do with Renigfro's health status. I don't think they saw him have some minor injury, where he didn't even come out of the game, then decided they had to get to a phone immediately and tell Pratt the moment had come. I'd imagine him being 15 abs away from a $100k bonus and an added $100K every 50 ab's after that was a bigger factor.

I hadn't heard of those bonusses until the post above, I think that's pretty clear reason there.

Also, someone mentioned someone claiming him. I didn't even consider that with how he's played, hopefully someone does that and gives a bit extra deadline money to play with

With a 51 OPS+ I think most teams would take their chances of Rengifo clearing waivers and then offering him the minimum if they wanted him. There's possibly a chance he accepts a minor league assignment (if that's even what the Brewers want). He'd likely want some type of out if a team becomes interested in bringing him to a major league roster.

He'll have no problem finding a MLB job at minimum salary after he clears waivers.

I suppose it's always possible that he could decide he wants to stay with the organization and play in Nashville for a while but he's playing for a 2027 contract so he'll likely want to get on a MLB roster ASAP.

Worth mentioning that the league minimum is up to 780,000 now. So my quick math indicates even a waiver wire pickup saves the Brewers almost 450K.  He is owed about 2.3 million for the rest of the year.
