Im totally fine including Ragsdale. Hes overperforming hard right now. Frias is the one that hurts, his potential is sky high, 115 MPH exit velos and a rocket launcher of an arm, plus good speed. Already showing good power albeit it was mostly in the DSL and he’s cooled off at the A level.

Please explain how you "know" Ragsdale is overperforming?

Like I said earlier, I saw him in person 20 times in Appleton, the dude is a star in the making, he's not overperforming in the least.  He's doing it every damn day.

Please...

I need someone to rationalize this return. If May had some control maybe I’d understand. Prospect niks are basically laughing at us and lauding the cardinals for the return. I think we could look very very stupid in a couple years.

You can't rationalize it.  It's a terrible move that should not have been made and I can't believe the Brewers thought this was something they needed to do.

Need @Spencer Michaelisto come in and talk some sense or get the real scoop from a source. On paper this looks like a disaster. Frias could make us look like fools in the same division. Really hoping this is a good call by the front office to sell high. I had questions about it swing but to not get good players with actual control, just seems like a massive miss.

As per usual, and no offense, but the truth hurts:

You are utterly clueless and zero informed when it comes to the Brewers system and their immense Pool of upper-tier talent. Zero.

Offer is there. You know better than me I guess, so if want to put some money where your mouth is that Ragsdale is “plug and play MLB ready” and sees action for the Cardinals this season, let me know.

Thought of it as someone was listing the OF prospects ahead of them.   Keep in mind its often been noted that there is a big chance Pena ends up in the OF too. Maybe they believe that too

We are going to be in the playoffs.    You don’t need need these guys to get us there.    You needed guys to win in the playoffs.    This really doesn’t do that

I’d be more neutral if it was with the orioles or someone.    Not the cardinals.    I just don’t see what this does other than be a negative

If we had traded these two for Holmes and Weaver, I don't think I'd be complaining (even though it would sting)

Two C-Level rentals (we do need innings eaters) is not something we should be giving up top 100 prospects for.

Every other injured pitcher we have traded for in the past 5 years has been a disaster.  Trading a AAAA player lottery ticket is fine, I just don't think there was much of a demand for players like May and Romero, yet we potentially gave up the biggest haul of any trade today (or atleast one of the biggest).

I understand the pressure that Arnold HAD to do something...  why wait until the last minute.  If we were comfortable giving up this much talent, go for the Creme de la Creme, not the scraps after everything else has had seconds.

I have a feeling that most teams knew that we were loaded with prospects and knew that we needed help in order to compete against the top teams in the league. So they were looking to make us overpay no matter what they offered, like how scammers would target obviously wealthy tourists.

In the same way that 20-30 percent of American holidays are meant to sell greeting cards, the trade deadline is meant to sell column inches.

The Brewers are always in damned either way position. Either they swing big and sell the prospects on a very uncertain bet, or they stand pat and get nationally (and locally) hammered for not doing something to get over the hump in October. It's a no-win situation.

As others have said, 2/3 of our current OF is locked up on long-term MLB deals. Those guys is gonna play. Then, you've got two prospects ahead of them already in the system. Then, you've got 2 top 100 draft picks (okay, Jones was #102), and I haven't even counted Felick or Lockridge, both of whom the org seems to like. Plus, I think OFers are the easiest position to find and develop.

Honestly, if May had one more year of control, I think people would be perfectly fine with this, which tells you how off-base the "worst trade ever" remarks are. It's probably a slight overpay. It stinks that it's to the Cardinals (though that org is a total and complete mess right now if you ask me). And yet, the Brewers got two needed arms and dealt of a position of great depth.

This feels like a typical deadline deal to me. There's not a lot of value to be had in a sellers market. There's probably a 10 percent chance we really regret this, a 30 percent chance neither Frias or Ragsdale do anything at all, and a 60 percent chance it works out within range of even, probably with a wider swath of that giving the Cardinals a couple wins worth of future value.

We overvalue our own prospects. You can look at it like we only got two rentals, or you can look at it like we got two MLB quality pitchers for two guys outside the organizational top 10.

This is perfectly reasonable, if you ask me.

I disagree with so much of this, that I am not going to comment other than to say, I disagree.

Not 6 weeks ago a lot of folks on here were saying Lara was overperforming big time compared to his batted ball profile. And he just kept doing it, and is now performing pretty well for a rookie in the bigs. Saying Ragsdale is definitively overperforming is very disingenuous.

The return reeks of desperation on the Brewers' part. I have no doubt that they had offers on the table for Skubal, and probably a handful of the other starters and relievers who have already been dealt today, but as those guys got picked off, they were left having to deal with a division rival who gouged them. Live and learn. I personally would have preferred Holmes, but the Cubs just traded a Top 100 guy for him, so its obvious that Stearns had a high price on him.

That would still be a ridiculous overpay.

This trade seems like something the Padres would do. It just doesn’t fit our M.O. at all.

The only way this turns out to be a “good” trade is if May and JoJo help get us to a World Series. I just don’t see them being that big of needle movers.

This trade seems like something the Padres ACTUALLY DID.... except THEY traded James Shields and they got back the young 18-year-old dynamic prospect.

I like May. He could play a big role. But... you could have just gotten Soriano if you were going to do this.

Stearns didn't want to get pwned by the Brewers again.

I'm not putting money on the table. I've watched the player. It's plain as day. He could go into an MLB line-up today and he would belong. Will the Cards put him in an MLB Line Up? Depends. They may slot him in at Triple-A immediately. That would indicate he'd be a likely late season cup of coffee candidate for sure. These two will immediately slip into the Cardinals top 10 and I will be entirely unsurprised if One or Both aren't top 5. Currently the Cards are extremely pitcher heavy at the top. This gives them much much needed young Blue Chippers.

You don't trade guys like Frias unless they're being valued as BLUE chip prospects.

You have enough other guys with a lot of upside... there's absolutely ZERO reason to do this trade.

Jordan Walker and O'Brien should be coming back for this joke of a deal.

I stand by my belief that this team needs a needle moving bat far more than pitching or we may very well end up disappointed once again in October with a lineup of guys that have very poor postseason track records.

There aren’t any needle moving bats to be had at this point. They should have been looking for a couple of bats a month ago.

Brewers were never going to acquire Holmes. He has a player option for ‘27 and has missed most of the year with a broken leg. He pitches well and he heads to free agency. He pitches poorly and they're stuck with him next year. That’s a risk Milwaukee wasn’t going to take in exchange for premium minor league talent.
