I've been getting weepy a lot since Chourio's catch Thursday. I love being that happy, but i've always been a crier

I'm not worried about the long layoff at all. We need the rest. I don't see how we lose this series. If we sweep again and going 11-1 in the postseason, where would this team rank in all time greats?

Someone said earlier the total wins would be Top 10 all time.

Considering the path and the legacy team that was just slayed... I think that would have to bump up a few spots. Top 8?

Now that I think of it I think the perfect Game 1 first pitch could be Yount and Selig going out to the mound together and Yount making the throw.

Then Uecker Jr. for the other game.

I think Uecker Jr. for game two also, but he'll wheel out Ueck's pitching machine and use that!

I go back and forth on the ALCS on who I would rather see. On paper Tampa is the tougher of the two. Also the most friendly away trip in terms of crowd dynamics and conditions.

This week off is brutal, man. I just hope it doesn't kill the momentum.

Brewers dont need a "prove it" series after taking down San Diego and LA. Bring on Cleveland.

I bet the bullpen is fine with the rest. Gives us extra days to process the emotions and be fully ready next week.

I appreciate the week off giving us time to revel in it a bit.

If we win it, there is going to be a moment in the aftermath where you realize it's over and get a bit sad. This is the best part.

If it's Cleveland, I worry about baseball oddities and this being the team to break their drought. They get their hearts ripped out over and over and then get a ring with a team barely better than mediocre.

Narratives don't matter. I know that. But this is the open thread.

I prefer Tampa, that’s the correct matchup between the two most deserving teams and organizations. I think Tampa had the dangerous “happy to be here” mentality at the start of the series but are starting to lock down. I’d like Cleveland to draw it out to 7 games though to wear down their pitching as much as possible.

Well Tampa and Cleveland will be playing at least 6 games.

As for the Brewers, blow out the rust & cobwebs in the first couple of innings of the first game and then pick up where they left off.

I can't imagine a sweep, so Brewers in 5 or 6.

For those worried about the week off, would you rather still be playing?

I'm kinda hoping the Rays make it instead of Cleveland.  I don't really know how well our offense/hitters would adjust to possibly 3 games in the cold air blowing off of Lake Erie.  I feel like I'd rather play all games indoors in temperature-controlled environments rather than having to hope our players get acclimated to the cold in a hurry.

Oh, and Tarik Skubal's dad tells me that Cleveland's fans are jerks to visiting fans. probably the worst in baseball that he has seen.

Seeing as how Miller Park was Cleveland's second home for three games some years back due to weather, I don't see why we couldn't play all seven games at Am Fam.

Beyond the fact that us losing would suck I wouldn't feel bad about either of the other 2 teams winning.  It's not like losing to the Yankees would be.  If it's tampa, at least a new team is guaranteed to win a world series and Cleveland seems similar to Milwaukee in a lot of ways.  Overall I'm not scared of either team though so it doesn't matter who we face.

Thinking through the Rays matchup, I have two major thoughts:

1) I like the idea of just playing the best possible team each round. If we're going to win the World Series, let's do it playing the hottest team, the back-to-back champs, and the best the AL has to offer.

2) Tampa is really good. They have a deep lineup, they steal bases, and they play elite defense. Their starting rotation has an ace, a very good Peralta, and two guys performing at a solid 2/3 level. Like us, they win with depth, all across the board.

Let's start with the bad. I worry about their defense taking away outs. We haven't had great batted ball luck in the postseason, and Tampa is better positioned than any other opponent to keep that going.

I think their starting pitching is similar to ours, though their top 4 seems clearer. Mis v. Rasmussen is ace-on-ace. Peralta-Henderson and Jax/Martinez-Gasser seem very close overall, and Tampa will likely have a clear edge in Game 4.

The good news is that the Brewers big strength is their ability to win all kinds of games. Tampa has SOME of that, but I think they need good outings for their starters much more than the Brewers. The bullpen is good. It's performed well. But it'll also be the worst we've faced this postseason. Baker has locked down a lot of saves, but he and Wells are both running FIPs well above their ERA. That and the defense helped the Rays outperform their Pythag by 8 wins this year. I just don't think the Rays are built to cover 5 innings per night out of the bullpen.

That means this series turns on something the Brewers have done well all year: dragging the starting pitcher. This will apply particularly to Rasmussen. If the Brewers get to him in Game 1, it's going to set the Rays back more so than it would other teams.

You never want to fall behind by multiple games. But doing so in this series hurts double. It lets the Rays give their starters longer leashes. That's the one thing I think the Brewers need to avoid. If the Rays win by great defense and a bullpen that shuts down over 6 or 7 games, you kind of just have to live with it. That's the way they're going to win if they do. They'll put up runs with an offense a lot like ours, but I don't think they can keep up unless they run prevent at a very high level.

Anyone saying “jinx” to this post?

The prices for tickets jumped in Tampa.  The ones behind the Brewers dugout are up to the same prices as in Milwaukee but on Tampas side it is cheaper???

not surprised at all. told my brother to expect a 50/50 fanbase in Tampa. they have low fan support and tons of snowbirds and the brewers can get cheaper tix plus vacation than in MKE
