Numbers since June 1:

333/435/530/965

ROY favorite, IMO.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Still pretty crazy how good he's been. I remember he played a bit with the team last year, I was watching his first mlb hit game with his family there. And thought he'd make a nice backup outfielder kinda player for us that was young and controllable...now he's a starter and mashing. And plays good D. Impressive.

To add on to this, since June 1, he has the highest fWAR of any NL position player at 2.7.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

The discussion of who has been the most important Brewers player this season is a fun one and I think there are under a half dozen guys who you could make a real argument for.

I think Peralta is on that list, I think Priester is on that list, I think if we combine the back end of the bullpen into one person... They are on that list, Vaughn is trending to get there and Durbin probably deserves an honorable mention in there somewhere..

Isaac Collins is on the list and I would not fight anyone who has him picked as our most important player this season.

I have posted this before but Collins and Vaughn along with Durbin’s emergence are major differentiators.  Frelick and Turang have been solid throughout.  It doesn’t hurt that Yelich and lately Contreras have trended toward their norms but that was frankly expected.  It’s Collins and Vaughn who couldn’t have been visualized in April and the early part of May.

I remember texting another forum member that Collins was garbage in the outfield during Spring Training (he had some bad plays). He has improved a bunch and is easy to root for. (despite being a Minnesota guy)

does anyone else feel like the team intentionally took a step back during the celebration last night to allow these young stars to have a special moment in the spotlight?

they were just as pumped but let durbin, sal, perkins, and Collins be front and center

Was perusing the NL position player leaderboard on FanGraphs, saw two guys right next to each other…

295/395/448 (142 wRC+)
12.7 BB% | 22.5 K%
+0.6 BsR | +3.4 DEF
over 249 PA for 3.1 WAR

248/320/576 (142 wRC+)
6.6 BB% | 28.6 K%
-4.0 BsR | -1.6 DEF
over 437 PA for 3.1 WAR

Of course the top one is Isaac Collins and the other one is Eugenio Suarez with ARI before being traded.

So we don't get an an extra pick when Collins wins ROY because he wasn't considered a top prospect at the beginning of the season.  Is that right?

But we will lose one year of team control?

Yep.

I don’t believe so, but the CBA isn’t 100% clear on this.  I think a player only gets credited for a full year if they don’t accrue a full year.  For example if a prospect is brought up in June and then wins the ROY they get a full year of service time instead of less than half a year.  I only skimmed over the CBA so I could be wrong.  In the above scenario a team would get 7-years but with the new rules it would be the standard 6-years of control.

Yeah it would be pretty bizarre that he would get two years worth of service time by winning the ROY.  It definitely seems to be only for those who didn't accrue a full year naturally ie Miz.

Finishing Top 2 in ROTY just guarantees you a full year of service time for the season. Collins was on the opening day roster so he is already going to get a full season of service time for this season. Which means him finishing Top 2 will have no impact on his team control/service time.

But his emergence ironically may cost Miz a service year.

Unfortunate for Miz, not unfortunate for the Brewers.

The chances of that are at least a lot lower today than they were a month ago. If he's lights out the rest of the way it's possible, but Collins and Baldwin have much more comprehensive resumes and should be 1-2 in some order.

True, but Miz would only need to finish top 2 in ROTY voting to qualify for the full service year. If Collins weren’t having a breakout rookie season, Miz would have a much clearer path to top 2.

Agreed, I was reacting to your statement that it may cost him a year, and I think that's not that likely at this point. At least, I'd say it's very unlikely if voting were held right now. Obviously many things could happen in the last two months, so we can't be very definitive yet.

The reigning NL Rookie of the Month, and NL Player of the Week. About to become a father for the first time. Collins is living life right.

When Chourio comes back, do the Brewers try Collins in the infield? I'm guessing there will be times when we'd prefer to have all of Yelich, Collins, Perkins, Chourio, and Frelick in the lineup?

Collins reminds me of Khris Davis. A "non prospect" who has just consistently performed at every level. I guess he had a mediocre season in 2022 at AA which was enough for Colorado to let him go due to the lack of prospect pedigree. Joke's on them!

Seems unlikely with how much the Brewers value defense.

Perk will probably be most impacted if everyone is healthy but they will still find spots for him.
