The bullpen actually seems like it hasn't been overworked the last couple weeks. In large part due to great starting pitching and exceptional depth. That should be a huge advantage going into a playoff series, especially if we can take it easy on Ashby and Patrick a bit down the stretch.

Gasser really saved the day yesterday. Wonder if he’ll be sent down for his trouble. Either that or May going on IL has to happen.

If it really is only a bruise I wonder if May could be ready to start in a couple days and give give everyone an extra day? The IL wouldn't be the worst if it is only 10 days, he essentially would miss 1 start and we could Uribe or Romero up here easily. I would prefer maybe giving Cam Wagoner a cup of tea in the bigs though.

I wouldn’t think he’d be able to pitch in the next couple of days, but maybe by when his next start would have been.

The IL for pitchers is 15 days so if they have to put him on the IL that would cause a shuffling of the planned starting rotation for the two Cubs series.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If May is good to go then just have him take Gasser's original spot on Sunday. If they really want May to start against the Cubs then will be difficult to avoid a Gasser option as they would need a starter Sunday.

Rain is a comin'. See if we can dance through this one without messing Miz/the bullpen up too much.

Looks worst in the afternoon; maybe we'll start late, but hopefully it'll get in.

The Mets host the Brewers at 7:10 PM

Weather:

Showers and thunderstorms will be a threat.  Winds from the south at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will be in the mid-70s.

Depends which model you believe, I think they might get lucky also but it could easily be a rainout.

Maybe, but if there's a semblance of a window, which it appears there may be, they're still going to try everything to get this game in.

Last thing Brewers, Mets, or MLB want is having to reschedule this game in September. Way easier said than done.

If interested, ESPN released updated farm system ratings today:  https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/49734496/2026-mlb-prospect-rankings-update-farm-systems-30-teams-brewers-dodgers-orioles-rays

1. Milwaukee Brewers: $602.1 million

Quality depth rank: 3
Previous rank: 1

The Brewers are operating at a high level right now: they have the top prospect in the sport (Jesus Made), opened the spring with the top farm system in the sport, have the best record in the sport and despite graduating two top-50 players in the past month (Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara) and trading another top-100 prospect (Alexander Frias) at the deadline, still have the top farm system in the sport -- and by a pretty solid margin.

In addition, the big league roster largely comprises homegrown players and players who got much better after Milwaukee traded for them; the scouting and development departments are working together and producing results as good or better than every other organization in baseball.

I have looked up the rules about a game being suspended or counted as final, and I still don't really get it. I think if one team gets a significant lead and it goes 5 innings, they could call it good when the rain comes, Otherwise, it seems it's "suspended" at the point the rain came, even if it only goes an inning - it actually is supposed to always be suspended unless it's the last game of a series, which this is.

I think they should give us a 3-0 win and let us fly  to the next series.    What do the Mets care anyways.    They can enjoy a night off

Need 5 innings completed for an official game or 4.5 if the home team is winning. Doesn’t matter if the lead is 1 run or 10 runs, the game can get called at that point.

May coming back & starting soon would be terrific for the reason you mentioned; you wouldn't have to bump everyone back but it's a nice option to have. As mentioned earlier, Gasser really was a life saver.

Wagoner is now back after being down a couple weeks. I like him quite a bit but unless you have a rash of injuries in September I don't think he plays a role until '27.

Always interesting vs a LH starter. Bauers has looked good vs them; at times great. Will he get back in the lineup? Can Sanchez step up vs the side he's pretty much here to face? Will Chourio bounce back after a horrible day at the plate followed by a day off?

Turang seemed to be seeing the ball better yesterday; much better swing/take decisions.

We know Chourio is usually going to be in the lineup, so it'll be interesting to me how the Mitchell/Frelick/Lara dynamic plays out, especially after Frelick reached four times last nite.

Yeah, the thing I was reading used "if one team is clearly ahead" which confused me. Why would you use the word "clearly" - you're either ahead or you're not?  "Score is not tied", would have worked, too,

Something changed in 2020 where there is no wiping away of innings already played if it doesn't reach the required 5 innings - it just gets suspended at that point, Used to be they threw those away and started over a whole new game.

Not that it mattered with the rain this afternoon, but no getaway game time?

Noticed teams doing this more and more, and I really don't like it. Just seems common courtesy to give an afternoon start, especially when one of the teams has to travel right after.

I'm sure the Brewers have done this at some point (though I think we're generally pretty good about it), so it isn't about it hurting us. The whole virtue of baseball is getting to play a lot of games during weekday afternoons. It's fun and gives folks a reason to take the day or pass the time while doing traditional work hour stuff. This grab for every night game first pitch (presumably to increase attendance) just feels like a small instance of ruining a great thing by trying to grab just a little extra money in a billion-dollar industry.

The first lineup they posted had Turang, Yelich, and Mitchell in it, Contreras catching, and no Frelick.  Not sure if the Brewers social team or Murphy was braindead so that could be a fun evening IGT debate to be had only if it gets rained out.

It was just a social media mistake. The lineup on MLB.com always showed the lineup in the updated social media post
