With The signing of Lara, do we try to sell GM at his high point (not on the injured list)?  For me, he strikes out too much so if I could get anything worth a 1.0-1.5 WAR player back or a pretty good prospect (non top 100 somewhere in a teams 8-15 prospect list) back I would be happy.

Isn’t Garrett Mitchell nearly a 3 bWAR player this season? If he makes it to 600 PA. I understand how that sounds.

He is, and I like Mitchell. That said, his extrapolated WAR won’t necessarily mean he’s worth that much in trade. His injury history will probably erode his value some. There’s still some uncertainty. Collins was a 2 WAR outfielder for us last year and he ended up worth basically nothing - he was a throw in.

For both Mitchell and Frelick, it would depend to me on what we could get. I think it makes some sense. But I wouldn’t give either away just to make room for Lara.

An arm, either in the pen or rotation, would be helpful. Or an upgrade at utility infielder over Rengifo.

only if part of a package for a big pitcher this year. He adds value to this team, even if Lara were here, so what is the value of disrupting that.. for a small prospect theyve been getting anyways?

When Lara comes. up, Perkins goes and its likely Frelick to the bench.. and we do need that bench bat that Frelick would offer. We can effectively upgrade at all 3 spots: Lara>Mitchell, Mitchell>Frelick, Frelick>Perkins.

No reason to dump that unless you are getting a significant playoff arm in return for Frelick or Mitchell, and im sure Arnold is exploring that.

Nah. Team is winning and Mitchell is playing well. Sal playing well lately but seasons stats worse than Mitchell. Mitchell’s ceiling is higher than Sal and he at least shows some power. Mitchell or Frelick could be traded this offseason if they want to sell high on Mitchell if he stays healthy and produces but highly doubt they make a trade of one of those 2 in season and mess with the current teams mojo. Sal’s value is low rn anyways. Lara will likely only be called up soon in case of injury. Lockridge replaces Perkins soon as 4th/5th OF and Bauers will continue to get some spot OF starts to keep him in the lineup.

think most likely way to get Lara involved without an injury is to cut Sal’s playing time and make him the 4th OF playing only vs RHP if he doesn’t start hitting more. But they will give Sal some leash still after last year’s performance and Murphy and management love him.

Doubt it if the thought is to get a filler 1 WAR player or f ringe prosepct. Mitchell is a starting CF that produces, if Lara is getting playing time then Frelick is hitting the bench. I can see trading Mitchell because he is never too far from another injury but need something worthwhile in return.

While I'd just bring up Lara at this point, as it stands right now regardless of how that unfolds holding onto Garrett is the most likely move. He is providing good actual production for us at the moment, and because of his history with us having a lot of OF options it is easy to give him off days and spread the playing time around, so in some ways that's actually valuable to us. He still has an unusual enough profile that he likely hasn't answered enough questions to bring back a really good return (now again if the Tigers are desperate for us to include him in a Skubal trade that's completely different). Offseason is more often when the club likes to deal position players and at that point if he stays relatively healthy for a whole season and keep producing that value might be very different. Alternatively year 2 of arbitration next year still means he isn't expensive to bring back, or if he falls off you can still move on relatively painlessly.

Too early to move Mitchell. His great  talent needs consistent playing time for a longer period in MLB. At least until the end of the year and I wouldn't trade him too soon unless as part of a trade package for a high level player.

glaring weakness

Four glaring weaknesses + six glaring strengths = a 116 wRC+ so far this year.

With only 649 PA spread over five calendar years there is plenty of time for Mitchell to still improve upon his weaknesses.

Considering he has already put up 4.2 WAR over those 649 PA with all his weaknesses there is quite possibly further upside to be tapped into if he can stay healthy long enough to get consistent PAs.

He MUST be one of those crazy dots over near the margins on one of those scatterplots.

Different perspectives are so interesting.

Is Mitchell broken or is he a few tweaks away from being an all star? Both things can be true depending on how you look at that savant graphic.

With only a year's worth of big league experience I'm not letting him go until we are sure we can't unlock him.

Something else to consider.  Mitchell is about to get more expensive as he hits arby.

not saying that means we are forced to move him… just saying that “being patient” with a younger player is one thing at $800k and another thing when that player starts to cost $3-4M, then $7M, then $10M?

I like what Mitchell is starting to show, but I thought he was referenced as a potential non-tender candidate for 2027 (as recently as this winter/early spring if he couldn’t get it together).

then again, considering Rengifo got $3.5M… I guess he really only gets “expensive” in that last year of Arby (2029)

Mitchell is already in Arb 1 at $950K. He's not going to get expensive in arb because he's had so many injuries and hasn't racked up playing time or numbers. I'm also not sure why people say we need to be patient with him. He has a 116 wRC+.

Not really concerned about Mitchell getting more expensive in arbitration years, more that he is running out of team control. History suggests he is traded after the 2027 off season at the latest so really not too out there to consider a trade after the 2026 season.
