  1. Jeferson Quero
I'll be that guy. This isn't a knock on Chourio as much as I'm just that high on Quero. Everything about his profile screams longtime big leaguer, and it is very promising that he took his one knock at the plate, drawing walks, and made a ton of progress in-season.
  2. Jackson Chourio
I'm not down on Chourio. He is still absurdly young for his level and has amazing tools. How good he is at making the adjustments that this year has shown he needs will determine just how close to his sky high ceiling he gets.
  3. Jacob Misiorowski
Having seen one of his lesser outings probably didn't help him in the three-way race for the top spot here. If he can manage to consistently command that arsenal ... wow.
  4. Sal Frelick
A bit of a lost year so far, hopefully he can turn it around in the second half
  5. Tyler Black
The nervousness over where he plays keeps me from ranking him any higher.
  6. Robert Gasser
Has righted the ship, and looking like a big league starter while in AAA will go a long way in my rankings.
  7. Luis Lara
Upside is a question, but he is still 18 and has the third lowest swinging strike rate in the Carolina league, trailing two guys each four or more years his senior.
  8. Carlos F Rodriguez
We'll see if the command evens out once the sticky ball experiment is done. If it does, he might leap Gasser to the No. 6 spot.
  9. Luke Adams
While the recent slump has dropped it a bit, has a really low swinging strike rate for a 19-year-old with power in A ball. More line drives would be nice, but he has exceeded expectations so far.
  10. Josh Knoth
As I said in the draft thread, this is the pick I am most excited about.
  11. Yophery Rodriguez
I have a feeling this is either five spots too high or five spots too low. I'm beginning to think it is the latter.
  12. Brock Wilken
If he hits enough to get to the power, I don't care if he has to move to first
  13. Hendry Mendez
When he is at his best he is spraying line drives all of the field. He needs to be more consistent about it, but he is still really advanced for his age.
  14. Cooper Pratt
A surprising and very promising pick
  15. Eric Brown Jr
Has been solid considering the injuries have kept him from really getting into a groove.
  16. Abner Uribe
If he can command that stuff, the Brewers have another dominant reliever
  17. Patricio Aquino
This is the dropoff point, but when in doubt I go with a young pitcher putting up good numbers
  18. Quinton Low
Raw, but the stuff sounds electric. Hopefully he can shake off some of the recent control problems.
  19. Alexander Cornielle
His peripherals point to him being as good as last year even if the ERA doesn't. Hopefully a second half bounce-back is coming.
  20. Daniel Guilarte
When healthy, it seemed like some of the ground balls were starting to turn into line drives, a very good development.

The only clear-cut decisions for me were Frelick 4, Black 5, and, mostly, Carlos Rodriguez 8 (There's still a part of me that wonders if I made a mistake not bumping Yophery Rodriguez up 5 more spots to 6). 1-3 were very close, as were Gasser and Lara. Then you had the fact that there were 16 guys I would have been fine placing in my top 10. Very little separated Adams at 9 from Uribe at 16  (sorry Abner, in prospect rankings a tie definitely does not go to the relief pitcher).

Then It was a tough call on the last four spots among nine players. The other five: Henderson, Di Turi, Bitonti, Moore and Zamora. I had Henderson in and Guilarte out until swapping at the last minute. While Guilarte obviously hasn't been a picture of health either, being injury-prone just scares me more in a pitcher. If it weren't for that, he would have been 17th.

  1. Jackson Chourio
I absolutely love Jeferson Quero and have been saying it for a couple years, but the upside for Chourio is still leaps and bounds above him. Chourio is on pace for a 20/40 season in AA as a 19 year old. I know some of the stats don't look great, but I'm expecting the true breakout to happen soon here. Especially now that the Southern League is back to the normal baseballs.
  2. Jeferson Quero
As I mentioned, I absolutely love Quero. Pretty much any time the last 10 years outside of the current time, he'd be my top prospect and it wouldn't be much of a debate.
  3. Jacob Misiorowski
Misiorowski passes Frelick for me in this update. I just think there's an insane upside with him. Like, best pitcher in baseball upside. The risk is still huge at this stage, so he isn't quite top 2 for me. I think the fastball, slider and curve can all be elite pitches.
  4. Sal Frelick
Frelick has struggled this year, there's no way around it. I still think there's a leadoff hitter here and I wonder if the thumb isn't still bothering him a bit. Last night (7/16) he had 4 hard hit balls, including 2 sweet spots, so hopefully that will be the start of a hot streak.
  5. Tyler Black
I have no clue how Black isn't in AAA yet. He is on pace for nearly a 20/80 season. The glove is still concerning and I think he most likely ends up at 1B still, but I'll say the defense is better than in the past and he seems to be a guy who works very hard to get better. I won't entirely rule out third or second working out, just for that reason.
  6. Luis Lara
A 129 wRC+ as an 18 year old, Lara is just a pure hitter. He plays a fantastic center field and has some raw power that you wouldn't expect from his frame. There's a ton of upside here.
  7. Cooper Pratt
Pratt has the highest ceiling of the Brewers picks in my opinion. Legit first round talent in the sixth round. I think he can stick at short and like many others, I see a lot of Gunnar Henderson in him.
  8. Eric Brown Jr
I still really strongly believe in EBJ. If he stays healthy, I think he's the starting SS once Willy is gone, or at least shortly after that. Staying healthy is going to be the most important thing. Outside of April, he was having a fantastic couple of months, until his latest freak injury.
  9. Carlos F Rodriguez
I really like Rodriguez. I'm not sure what else he needs to do to get national attention. It's a 4 pitch mix that all can play. Command can falter at times, but he has strikeout stuff and showed well in the WBC against a bunch of MLB hitters. I think he's in Milwaukee some time next season.
  10. Josh Knoth
Fastball up to 98 as a 17 year old, sitting mid-90's. 3000 RPM curve and slider combo. Just a really fun arm. Highest pitcher ceiling behind Misiorowski for sure.
  11. Brock Wilken
I've made my thoughts on Wilken pretty known. I think it ended up being a very solid pick once the rest of the draft played out. There is a Pete Alonso type bat in there as a semi-realistic outcome.
  12. Robert Gasser
He's ready for the majors. Not sure the Brewers have a clear opening for him any time soon, but he is ready to pitch MLB innings. He's been really good for a month and a half or so now.
  13. Luke Adams
Adams is one of my favorites. The swing is not pretty, but it gets the job done. Super advanced eye at the plate. Incredible athlete for his size. Can legitimately handle third base in my opinion. Needs to cut down the infield pop-ups a bit. If he turns those into regular fly balls or line drives, he's got a huge ceiling.
  14. Mike Boeve
One of my favorites in the draft. I think there's a real upside of a Tyler Black type hitter. You won't get the same SB production as with Black, but I think Boeve is much more likely to be able to handle third or second base defensively.
  15. Eric Bitonti
Absolutely huge power for a high schooler, did struggle with breaking balls a bit. Not in recognition, but just in squaring them up. Chased a surprisingly low amount in the summer circuit. Will move to third base. Could quickly move up my list if he shows an ability to handle spin.
  16. Justin Jarvis
Jarvis' test will come in Nashville as he gets used to the non-tacky ball and better competition. The fastball always had really good characteristics, so I don't think the tacky ball helped him as much as others. The velo jump was legit and the splitter is a great pitch. He's got the potential to be a major league starter.
  17. Daniel Guilarte
One of my favorite defensive players to watch. He can really pick it, has good range and a strong arm. It reminds me of Eduardo Garcia, but with a legitimate approach at the plate. He needs to start elevating more and preferably pulling the ball more, but if the bat is even average he will have a MLB career ahead of him.
  18. Abner Uribe
We got a small taste of what he has before the All Star break. It's a legit triple digit fastball and the slider is a really good pitch. Probably the best of his three, as he commands it much better and more regularly than his fastball/sinker.
  19. Logan Henderson
By far the best changeup in the system, it has some airbender qualities. Fastball plays well up and the slider gets really high spin numbers, though it looks to me like it could use some adjusting on it's axis. It seems like, at times, he gets around it too much and causes it to just spin but not get the movement you'd be hoping for.
  20. Hendry Mendez
If Mendez hits the ball in the air without losing his contact skills, he will shoot back up my rankings. When he hits the ball in the air and not on the infield dirt, it very often turns into extra base hits. Solid defender as well. The batted ball profile just really needs to improve.

Yophery Rodriguez would be 21. I rarely put DSL players that high, but I think they may have something here. He may end up following the Lara/Chourio route and skipping the ACL next year for Carolina.

Juan Baez probably would sneak in pre-draft, but got bumped by the 5 draftees. The contact skills are ridiculous. Hoping he can learn to draw a few more walks as he moves through the system.

Patricio Aquino also may have made my list before the draft guys got added. He's got a legit starters repertoire and is showing really well in Carolina having only turned 20 a couple months ago.

  3. Jacob Misiorowski
Could easily be number 2, but will need to see more longer starts and better control.
  4. Sal Frelick
I just dont feel his ceiling is as high as the other 3.
  5. Tyler Black
Has had a great year, but still feel I need to see more to know this breakout is real. Has position flexibility, but not super at any position.
  6. Brock Wilken
Excited that the brewers got some power in their system.
  7. Carlos F Rodriguez
  8. Josh Knoth
  9. Abner Uribe
  10. Eric Brown Jr
  11. Mike Boeve

System is looking better than it has for a while, but shallow in TOR type starters.  I feel arguments could be made at the bottom end for several names out there and there is still a lot of upside potential that we have not seen verse quality competition.

Ranked Prospects

@Brock Beauchamp So, I'm assuming this is the consolidated rating?  Any way to add a weighting score to each player? It would be nice to see how tightly grouped they were.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Yeah, I think that's about right.

Chourio - gold star, blue chip, all that

Quero, Misiorowski - ascendant, could be great

Black, Frelick - good solid prospects, could go either way

A bunch of guys

I think Adams might be a bit underrated. His stats would fit right in with the non-Holliday first round prep hitters from last draft.

Looks like @Jim French Stepstool and @Playing Catch joined you putting him at the end of the top ten and there were a couple elevens too.

The plate discipline (63 BB vs 71 K in 322 career PA) and wheels (33 SB vs 8 CS career) are shades of Tyler Black in a larger body.

Obviously still young for his league and the 142 wRC+ is excellent, but the thing holding him back for me personally are the inconsistent batted ball results this year.

I ended up putting him at #18, but I’ve got everyone from #12 onward in pretty much the same tier so I can see the case for having him higher.
