Brewers spent down to the final penny of their allotted pool last year.

Good to know. I would prefer when our time to pick comes up draft the best players available. Pay them what they are worth and stack as much high level talent as possible given where they are drafting. Thank you.

So there's a new CBA rule that if you get an MLB draft physical that you are guaranteed 3/4 slot which would mean Payne is guaranteed $3.4M...makes that pick feel a lot weirder to me.

Clearly they believe their guys at the slots they got them are the best value. They always spend their full allowance, so what’s your complaint?

My complaint is they are not taking the time honored approach of drafting best player available. As a small market only way you are going to get high level talent is the draft. Drafting the 60 best player at 17 is not that.

BPA is not how the MLB draft works.

That is not how the MLB draft works you also have to take into account what the player is going to sign for.  You can only go over so much before you start losing future draft picks.

Last year, they executed this approach perfectly and produced what might become the best draft in organization history. A few years ago, we picked Brown and Moore at the top, which turned out to be a rather empty draft. We'll see how this plays out.

Cooper Pratt, drafted over slot last year at #182 with money saved by going under slot on earlier picks, just played in the Futures Game and cracked MLB Pipeline’s Top 100.

Kinda peeved that the Mariners took the guy I wanted not once, but twice. Wanted Cijntje and they took him. Wanted Sloan, and they took him.

That being said, I like what I’m hearing about Meccage. I’ll take a HS pitcher with good build and elite spin any day of the week.

Woof. Do we know about this rule? Hopefully he didn’t take a physical… Ha.

Meccage is definitely going to be overslot. Nice, projectable arm with a big fastball and a great feel for spin. Brewers pick to a T.

He honestly seems like Josh Knoth +frame -FB shape based on reading a couple scouting reports.

Yep. Quite a bit bigger. Different arm slot. But, certainly in that mold.
