I think the Baddoo reinstatement news from Sunday makes a Rengifo DFA more likely.

Now if the decision is to add Williams, Leonard, or Lara, you need a 40-man spot available beyond just a 26-man spot.  It will now take more than sending Perkins, Ortiz, or Hamilton down to Nashville.

They can still transfer Zerpa and Priester to the 60 day IL if they need to clear a 40 man spot

You'd think it would be soon. Of your going to bring up Jett or Pratt, youd want them to at least get a months worth of ABs before the trade deadline. If they can't handle it, you need to rent someone.

Murphy said he wants Jett Williams settled at 1 position when he breaks into the big leagues. He’s primarily played 3b so far.

if you look ahead to 2027, there’s not really an obvious spot for him as an every day player. Made very well may be our third baseman. Pratt our SS. Lara in CF. Turang at 2b. Chourio and Frelick in the corners. So if all of these guys are retained, we might be looking at a super sub role for Williams as early as 2027.

that leads me to think Williams will get some significant run at 3b this season. If he gets the call in early June, that’s 2 months of mlb playing time before the trade deadline.

unless Rengifo goes on a heater (had a nice game yesterday), I think the transition to Williams as the primary starter at 3b is imminent.

I loved what Frelick brought to the table last year, but I’m worried that was a flash in the pan.  He is looking more and more unplayable.

that said, if we can avoid black holes at 3B, SS, and the other OF spot, it’s easier to buy some time for Frelick to improve

I'm torn on Frelick, he does have enough of a track record that you don't just want to cut him loose, and despite not a ton of power it seemed like he used to contribute in a variety of ways. But there have also been a couple of years worth of articles even while he was producing arguing that his profile might not really be all that sustainable...

Ya Frelick has been unplayable offensively for a corner outfielder so far.

I guess I have some hope his offense will rebound the rest of the way.

however if his offense doesn’t improve over the rest of the season, it’s totally fair to question how he fits into the future line up. I wouldn’t argue that outside of 2025, he’s produced like a 4th outfielder.

Sal needs to hit the weight room. 6th percentile bat speed ain’t gonna cut it long term.

Well, he’s certainly not just going to be cut loose.  But — optioning him should be on the table.

I think this is the core issue. not Super 2.

We know how important defense is to the Brewers (bad defense = more pitches throws = more bad pitches thrown = more runs scored against = more pitches thrown by young pitchers who they are trying to manage workload).  They want to be confident that he can adequately play 3B at a major league level.

Imagine explaining the Super 2 system in any other sport. None of us are even sure that's the reason some of these guys are still in AAA. It's just the logical explanation. Oh, and the 40 man. And Rule 5.

Baseball is so stupid.

He's hitting the ball the same as last year. We jump to conclusions way too soon.

He's a guy who makes a lot of contact and who uses his speed to help get him on base. He won't be a power hitter, but he'll be fine. I'd also just remind people, this time last year, we were talking about Turang being a below average bat as he once again was sitting at sub .700 OPS.

I'd bet Frelick hits ~.280 the rest of the way with a .340 OBP... while playing plus defense in RF.

That would really help our offense.  Maybe I have rosy colored glasses, but it seemed like Frelick was a solid spark plug for us in the leadoff spot last year.  Ben’s got to get it going before we can bat him lead off again though.

Huh? Try explaining the NBA salary cap and exemptions if you think Super 2 is a hard concept
